The Biggest Loser kicked off season 12 with a dramatic start last night as we watched Debbie Lounds get into a dramatic argument with fellow contestant, Bonnie, and ultimately Debbie Lounds was sent home. In a post elimination press conference, Debbie shared some thoughts on the show, and the drama. Check out what Debbie wanted to share below!
Question: Why didn’t you seem more upset to be sent home last night?
Debbie Lounds: All of the other contestants had health problems like sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and diabetes. I never anticipated being in that position. I didn’t have any of those things. I think being in the position that we were in and with me having the support system at home, I knew I could be the sacrificial lamb and I would be okay.
Question: Were you really that irritated by Bonnie?
Debbie Lounds: Bonnie irritated me, but I wasn’t coming from a place of meanness. I speak what is on my mind. I recognize that I came across as unsympathetic, but I didn’t get much of a chance to defend myself. The scene was longer than they showed, and I think a lot of it has to do with how it was edited. I’m not upset about how I came across. I thought they were very fair in how they portrayed me. I just felt bad that I wasn’t given an opportunity for people to get to know me. I wasn’t there long enough for people to get to know me.
Question: Do you feel that Bonnie’s tears got her the sympathy votes at the elimination table?
Debbie Lounds: I don’t think she was getting the sympathy vote. I understand that it’s very difficult when you lost someone. I just thought she could have controlled her tears a little bit better.
Question: Have you and Bonnie spoken since and resolved your issues?
Debbie Lounds: Yes, she and I get along fine, and we talked soon after, because I really wanted her to understand that I wasn’t coming from a place of meanness. I’m a very straightforward person and I usually speak what is on my mind. And so, if I had stayed there, maybe it never would have come up. But that’s just how it came across. I was sorry afterward, and I just wanted to make sure that she knew, and we did understand each other.
Question: What was it like working with Anna Kournikova?
Debbie Lounds: Anna Kournikova is a real task master who works you hard. I never doubted Anna’s abilities. I had complete faith in the producers in their selection of the trainers.
Question: Do you think viewers got the wrong impression of you?
Debbie Lounds: Tuesday night my daughter organized a viewing party, and there were like 100 people there, and because they know me and they like me, we were laughing. When I was in the gym with Anna Kournikova and working out and stuff and I was saying, ‘Oh can I have some water, please? I’m about to die of thirst,’ they know me, and so they know how I am. But unfortunately, to those on the show and those who saw the show, I’m sure I came across as unsympathetic and however it is. And that’s why I wanted to talk to Bonnie.
Question: What’s in your future?
Debbie Lounds: A marathon, although it was never something I thought I would do. My position is going to be that, I’m just going to roll with everything. I’m telling people, if they want to buy me something, they can buy me some knee pads or they can buy me some roller skates, because if I have to crawl across the finish line, then that’s what I’m going to do. Or if I can roller blade across the finish line, that’s what I’m going to do. But I’m going to finish it, come hell or high water.
