Many people have played Survivor multiple times, but Sandra Diaz-Twine is the only person to do it twice. Despite her $1 million victories from Survivor: Pearl Islands and Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, Russell Hantz said she wasn’t a very good player. In a recent interview, Sandra told all about her relationship with Russell, how she reacted when he was booted from Survivor: Redemption Island and explains why he will never win the game. Read on to watch the exclusive interview with Survivor’s only two-time champ!
When I asked Sandra how she reacted to seeing Russell cry when he was eliminated from Survivor: Redemption Island, she didn’t hesitate to answer. “I laughed my ass off,” she said. “We actually had a Facebook party. We named it Ressell Mania. ‘Ressell’ because of how Ralph spelled his name. I think we partied the whole week. As a matter of fact, my profile page, I had a hat on — a party hat. We were making noise, I mean, I’m still sore from screaming that day.”

As far as her bond with Russell. Well, there is none. “I don’t acknowledge Russell, I don’t talk to Russell, I don’t have any kind of communication with Russell. I don’t need to and I don’t have to.”
But that isn’t where her opinion of Russell stops. “You see his game,” she continued. “He went out there and he did what he did the first two seasons thinking it was gonna work a third season, but by then people watched his game. People don’t like him. People can’t tolerate him and he didn’t last long. If he were to play again, he’d go home again. So for me, I feel like he shouldn’t waste his time. Survivor is not for him. Survivor is a game where you have to be smart and you have to play these people. He doesn’t have what it takes to win the game. Plain blank. Russell doesn’t have what it takes to win Survivor.”
During this interview, which took place before the cast of Survivor: South Pacific was announced, Sandra also weighed in on her thoughts of the game’s big twist — Redemption Island. “I like Redemption Island from my sofa. Had I been playing the game, I wouldn’t want Redemption Island because if I vote you off, I don’t want to see you come back in the game. That’s exactly what happened to us in the Pearl Islands (when Burton Roberts and Lillian Morris returned to the game). So as a fan I love it, but as a player in the game, I wouldn’t want it. I wouldn’t want to have to go up against anybody on the one-on-one challenge because how could I sit out of that one? I would have to play.”
