J.R. Martinez Inspires Good Deed After Emotional Performance On Dancing With The Stars

October 09, 2011 12:00 PM by Lisa Princ

Last week on Dancing With The Stars on ABC, fans watched as All My Children’s J.R Martinez gave us an emotional performance, that hit close to home for many families. Now, J.R. Martinez shares a tale of an inspiring good deed from one viewer. Read on for all the details!

Dancing With The Stars contestant, J.R. Martinez brought us an emotional performance this week with his routine to “If You’re Reading This” by Tim McGraw, when we all learned that he was badly injured in a landmine explosion while serving in Iraq for the U.S. Army. J.R. Martinez has made it known that he supports the “Wounded Warrior Project,” which helps severely injured soldiers transition back into civilization, and J.R. Martinez recently inspired 83-year-old Mary Tilt to donate a barely used $3,500.00 wheelchair she inherited to a soldier in need.

Mary Tilt donated the wheelchair to a soldier who recently lost both legs and one arm while serving. She told reporters about being inspired by J.R. Martinez as she said: “He’s a wounded warrior. And I knew he was on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and I wanted him to know that it was him that made me want the wounded warriors to have that chair.” J.R. Martinez’s inspiration to Mary is exactly what he was trying to accomplish, to inspire folks to help wounded soldiers, and he couldn’t be more grateful to Mary, who refers to him as “the greatest wounded warrior” she has ever known.

Luckily, for Mary and those of us inspired by J.R. Martinez, we will get to see this courageous soldier for at least one more week on Dancing With The Stars, and J.R. is thrilled himself. J.R. Martinez said of the competition: “It’s an amazing honor and I’m going to continue, as long as I’m here in this competition, I’m going to continue to carry that torch as long as it’s lit.”

What did you think of J.R. Martinez’s emotional performance this past week? Are you looking forward to watching him again this week? We are! Be sure to tune in tomorrow as the stars hit the dance floor once again!
