October 11, 2011 06:12 AM by Lisa Princ

Chaz Bono took the stage last night with The Paso Doble on Dancing With The Stars on ABC, where we watched Cher cheer him on in the audience. Now she has another reason to be proud of her son, as Chaz Bono is being honored with an award at an upcoming gay and lesbian celebration. Read on for more details!

Dancing With The Stars contestant Chaz Bono, may not make it into show’s finale next month, but Chaz has something else to celebrate this coming November, as the gay and lesbian activist is set to be honored at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s 40th Anniversary Gala and Auction, which takes place on November 12. Chaz Bono will be honored with the Center’s Board of Directors award, as he has been a dedicated activist in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community since 1995.

The Center’s CEO said of Chaz Bono: “Chaz has been a trailblazer in our community for many years, bravely speaking his truth and working to make our movement stronger. He has continued that leadership since coming out as a transgender man. No other person has done more than Chaz to promote visibility and understanding about the reality of transgender people. His courageous example is helping transgender youth and their families throughout the world. That’s great progress not only for the LGBT community, but for society as a whole.”

The celebration, which will be hosted by Leslie Jordan of “The Help” and featuring Jane Lynch “Glee,” includes a cocktail reception and a silent auction featuring travel and dining packages, followed by dinner and entertainment. If you want to attend the event, it’s going to cost you as a normal ticket costs $300 per person, and $400 for a VIP ticket. Emmy Award winning Neil Patrick Harris is also being honored at the celebration, so if you want to see Neil and Chaz Bono honored, check out www.anniversarygala.org for more information.

All we can say is: THANK YOU CHAZ for a wonderful LAUGH. Maybe you missed your calling instead of all this gay activist foolishness you should’ve been a comedian. Nothing like seing lard shake rattle and roll for a great laugh. As for Cher. She contributed more than her fair share to morally bankrupt our society. appearing nearly naked on televion events viewed by thousands of all ages. why can’t the media focus on someone who can provide a good wholesome example for our kids. hame on you both, andspecially DWTS. enough with the freaks already!!!!

I have always loved and admired his mother for her ability to be “herself”, now I see that she has instilled this in her son as well… Good for them for not falling into that trap that you have to be like everyone else to be accepted! Love you both!

Has anybody missed the fact that he is not gay! His issues were not lifestyle choice but a proved medical condition.

Why in the hell do we need to give people awards for touting their sexual identity? I swear the gays and lesbians do not want to be seen as outcasts and freaks yet they make themselves look that way. You want people to accept you PLEASE DON’T BRING SO MUCH ATTENTION TO YOURSELVES!

I place no judgment on what a person does with their life. I am concerned that all this publicity about Chaz is defeating the purpose of the competition. They are competing to determine who is the best dancer not the most popular. ABC we all know that you are doing this for ratings. Let’s get back to the real purpose of the show.
