Last night on The Biggest Loser on NBC, Mike “coach” Danley was sent home, even though he consistently had the most weight loss on his team each week. Mike is continuing his healthy lifestyle at home, and in a press conference today, Mike discussed his elimination and plans going forward. Read on for more!
The Biggest Loser fans watched as Bonnie held the only vote at the elimination table last night, and it was Mike Danley who she chose to send home. Despite the fact that he lost more weight each week on his team and stood out as the team leader, Bonnie felt that Becky needed the ranch more. Mike holds no hard feelings even though he thinks that Bonnie made the wrong decision. Check out his post elimination interview:
Question: You looked angry at the elimination table last night. Can you tell us what was going through your head and heart while you were in there?
Mike Danley: Prior to going in, I really was confident that I wasn’t going to be voted off. I knew I worked hard and I had all the numbers. I had been the leader or captain, if you will, from the get go on that team. I felt good going in, until Bonnie started to talk. And when she started to talk, I thought, ‘Oh no, she’s not going to do this, is she?’ and then I was taken by her reasoning and choice of myself. Although I respect her decision, I obviously did not agree with it. It upset me, but things happen and we just face it and go on, which is what I did.
Question: Do you think there will be consequences from Bonnie’s decision?
Mike Danley: I don’t want anybody to think that Bonnie and Becky can be underestimated by any means. But when I say, ‘The story is told by the numbers,’ I just thought that I had the best numbers and with that in mind, I would still be on the show. I wasn’t even thinking of being eliminated. But you have two ladies there that are bonding on the ranch, and I just think that Bonnie thought that Becky needed some more time there. So that was her decision, and I just had to go with it.
Question: Can you tell us about being on the tennis court with Anna Kournikova and working out with an NFL player?
Mike Danley: I’ll start with Anna. The tennis court was our last chance workout and to be honest, I thought certainly I ought to be able to hit a ball, but when we got out there she put us through tennis drills. I mean,
She did this for 8 hours a day and I was thinking, ‘When is this gonna be over?’ Eric Dickerson, on the other hand, I have watched while I was in college, he was on the Rams, then the Colts. I knew he lived by the ranch, so every time I walked the presidential mile, I would see his house. I had no idea who the NFL player was we would be working with, and I was very excited when he turned around because he was no stranger to me. We bonded very well, and I continue to use his words of inspiration that age is just a number.
Question: There have been many viewers torn on Anna Kournikova as a trainer, can you tell us your thoughts on her?
Mike Danley: Well, being there first hand, I see her as a winner. I see an international champion in a sport that is very difficult. She is not a rookie by any means, she is not a pushover. She is a very compassionate individual. We came along way in a little amount of time. Honestly, if it weren’t for Bonnie and her bad knee, we were in pretty good shape…we got better and better, day by day, week by week. Like I have said all along, The Biggest Loser is not going to bring someone in off the street with no credibility. I was very thankful to work with her.
Question: Do you think that the black team is unstoppable?
Mike Danley: They certainly have been up until now. The young team is catching up a little bit and it’s been a little bit closer and closer competition recently, but the black team, again, finds a way. And when you look at champions, they find a way, no matter what the odds are and no matter what the obstacles are. So, right now I’ve got to say the black team is the one to beat.
Question: What does the blue team need to do to get back in the game?
Mike Danley: Make no mistake about it, we are in the game. Don’t underestimate our ability to shine. Yes, there only two left, but those two are very confident and are working hard. The game plan is to do the very best we can do. Everyone thought their loss would be more this week, but if you do everything you could possibly do, you have no regrets. I don’t look at myself as a loser.
Question: How are you training for the marathon?
Mike Danley: I’ve been training a lot with my legs, to strengthen them. I have never done a marathon before…I am not a runner so to speak, so this will be challenging for me. I do know from talking to my son and daughter-in-law, who do those things, that you’ve got to have strong legs.
Best of luck to coach Mike Danley! We look forward to seeing you at the finale, and will certainly miss you next week!
