Tonight on The X Factor, following last week’s final performances, what began as thousands of hopefuls weeks ago will be reduced to just sixteen finalists. Judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and L.A. Reid will each choose just four acts to put forward from their houses. Keep reading to find out the results and highlights…
To refresh, Simon has the girls under 30 in his house, Nicole and Enrique Iglesias mentored the over 30s, Paula and Pharrell Williams mentored the groups, and L.A. Reid and Rihanna mentored the boys under 30.
Simon genuinely likes the eight girls, but says he woke up clear-headed and is ready to announce his choices. He lets Tora Woloshin go, and keeps Simone Battle. Drew Ryniewicz is up next to learn her fate – he tells her she was the best of the day yesterday, and he’s keeping her.
Nicole, in Malibu, is ready to deliver her decisions. Josh Krajcik is first to hear his verdict – he is going through. He calls it the beginning of a dream come true. Dexter Haygood, James Kenney, and Christa Collins will be next to hear their fate. Christa and James are not put through, but Nicole tells Dexter she’s going with her heart and putting him through to the live rounds.
Paula is ready to tell 2squar’d, Illusion/Confusion, and The Brewer Boys what she’s decided. She tells Illusion/Confusion, who lacked showmanship, that she’s sorry but she can’t take them forward. 2squar’d hear the same verdict. The Brewer Boys, however, are told they deserve to be part of the live shows – they’re through. 4Shore are thanked for being patient. Paula says she’s in awe of their vocals, but they need a lead. She cannot take them through.
L.A. Reid is also prepared to break some news. Brian Bradley, the teen who wants fame, fortune, and girls, meets with L.A. first. L.A. expresses some concern about his attitude, but puts him through. Brian hugs him. Skyelor Anderson, Nick Voss, Phillip Lomax, and Brennin Hunt are next on the chopping block. L.A. speaks to each of them and sends Nick, Skyelor, and Brennin home. Phillip makes it through – he believes in him.
Back at Simon’s house, Jazzlyn Little is about to find out if she’ll be going any further. Simon tells her, “Sweetheart, it’s bad news – you didn’t make it. I’m really sorry.”
Over at Nicole’s place, oldest contestant, LeRoy Bell, is ready to hear if it will be yes or no. Tiger Budbill is also anxious to learn his fate. Tiger is sent home in an emotional moment. LeRoy goes through in a much happier moment.
In the Hamptons, L.A. is about to let Chris Rene know if he will move on. L.A. tells him he’s on his team – he’s through to the live rounds.
Lakoda Rayne and InTENsity are prepared to hear their outcomes from Paula. Lakoda Rayne are put through – Paula thinks they can make history. She also puts InTENsity through. Celebrating ensues.
Simon has two spots left on his team. Caitlyn Koch and Tiah Tolliver are hoping to get one of them. Simon lets Caitlyn go, telling her he’s genuinely sorry. Tiah gets Simon’s vote of confidence and goes through. He tells her she can be fantastic if she believes in herself.
In the boys’ category, it’s down to two – Tim Cifers and Marcus Canty – with just one spot left. L.A. tells Marcus he loves his voice tone, and tells Tim that Rhianna loved his humble quality. He has concerns about how Marcus would fit in the current scene, but he gets the final spot. Tim is sent home.
The Anser and The Stereo Hogzz await news as to who will get the last spot on Paula’s team. Paula offers each of the groups a critique, but it’s The Anser who are sent away. Paul tells Stereo Hogzz they are potential superstars and are going with her. They jump in the swimming pool!
Stacy Francis and Elaine Gibbs are the final two at Nicole’s house. Only one of them can go through to the live rounds. Nicole calls it one of the hardest decisions she’s ever had to make. She lets Elaine go and takes Stacy through.
The last spot on Simon’s team will go to 13 year-old Rachel Crow or 18 year-old Melanie Amaro. Simon tells Melanie he’ll never forget her first audition, but he can’t put her through. He tells Rachel it’s not good news – it’s fantastic news! She’s through to the live rounds. She sobs with joy.
But it’s not over – Simon feels in his gut he’s made a big mistake. He gets on a plane and heads to Sunrise, Florida saying he has to right a wrong. He arrives at a house and knocks at the door of Melanie Amaro. He apologizes to her and her family and asks her to come back to the competition. She says yes. There is much teasing about Simon having a heart.
The X Factor Top 17 are: Simone Battle, Drew Ryniewicz, Josh Krajcik, Dexter Haygood, The Brewer Boys, Brian Bradley, Phillip Lomax, LeRoy Bell, Chris Rene, Lakoda Rayne, InTENsity, Tiah Tolliver, Marcus Canty, The Stereo Hogzz, Stacy Francis, Rachel Crow, and Melanie Amaro.
