19 Kids And Counting Recap: The Duggar Family Visits Scotland and Ireland

November 14, 2011 06:57 AM by Beth Stewart

As you know last week Michelle and Jim Bob announced to their family and to the world that they are pregnant again. Number 20 will arrive in the spring of 2012 and they are all very excited. This week on 19 Kids And Counting the family started their 20 day European tour by visiting Scotland and Ireland. This is the family’s first time overseas.

First up, Michelle used the home P.A. system to call a family meeting. Using large maps Jim Bob outlined the trip to everyone. Jess is the family’s organizing queen and she was giving the task to packing for everyone. A shopping trip for suitcases was next. Michelle said that Jim Bob always over packs for trips, especially in the underwear and socks department. Meanwhile Grandma packed tuna in case the food on their tour wasn’t up to snuff.

Did you hear the news?  The Duggar’s are expecting number 20!

On the morning of, a very excited family was a little late getting to the airport and then it took two hours to board.

A small plane took them from Arkansas to New York City where they boarded a larger jet to Scotland. When they arrived, they found the time change quite a struggle and the kids were trying to get naps anywhere they could while Michelle and Jim Bob tried to get them moving.

Michelle Duggar claims having a probably pregnancy should not stop someone from getting pregnant again.

Once the family got mobile, their first activity was to walk the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle. They encountered a street performance artist eating fire and swallowing swords. Afterward they had a conversation with him. When Jim Bob asked him what his faith background was, the man admitted he didn’t believe in God. Jim Bob made it clear that that God loved him too.

On the second day, Michelle thought the scenery was quite beautiful and the colors reminded her of a patchwork quilt. They arrived at the Highland Games and after being greeted, they were promptly renamed, “The McDuggar Clan.” They got a real kick out of that.

Next they joined in on a huge tug of war. They weren’t on the winning side but had a great time. After being invited to don a kilt, Jim Bob thought it was a bit chilly out for that but later he was hijacked by a group of Scottish gentlemen who outfitted him in an authentic kilt. Jim Bob wore his jeans underneath! Michelle looked great when she dressed as a traditional Scottish lass.

Next was the ferry to Ireland where most of the family experienced some motion sickness. Since Michelle is pregnant she felt terrible but was happy she wasn’t sick.

In Ireland they visited a farm where they all made Irish Soda Bread by hand. Next up was watching a sheepdog herd the sheep. Then the kids tried a little sheepherding themselves and learned how useful the dog was.

Next was a pig riding contest. Amy and Joseph provided lots of laughs riding this pig then Amy and Jim Bob drank milk right from a cow. Jim Bob said it was the freshest milk he’d ever had.

The family had a wonderful time building family memories with nice people and good weather. One of the younger children said, “They talk different than us because that’s how God made them.”

Next the family will head to England and enjoy the pleasure of The London Eye, Stonehenge, high tea and more.

Have you ever been to Scotland or Ireland. Did you enjoy seeing the sights with the Duggars? Feel free to leave your comments.

Who in the hell is paying for this 21 member family to go on an European vacation. My husband and I have a good income…but, it still will be a struggle for us and our two children to vacation overseas….they also get paid to fly that crew to NY to be interviewed on the Today Show…Why does anyone think that having 20 kids is a great accomplishment? Obviously they are looking to make the Guinness Book

These people should be ashamed of themselves. Heard of overpopulation? It’s called birth control- use it!

Michelle and Jim Bob aren’t the ones taking care of them all the time. The older children do alot.

Having 20 kids and actually lookin after them must be hard but in my opinion i think its selfish that jim bob and michelle continue to have kids at their age. The kids clearly do not have a social life because the older kids are constantly lookin after the younger ones. If anything happens to the parents then the elder kids will become the parents, jim bob and michelle need to consider the livlihoods of their own children instead of thinking about having another child.

I love the Duggars and although I do not agree with all their beliefs I certainly don’t have a problem with them having 19/20 kids if that is what they believe. I am always shocked at people saying the older kids have to look after the younger ones as if that is a bad thing. I am only 3 years older than my sister and was her second mum for most of our childhood and that hasnt bothered me at all. I think kids should have a childhood yes but they also need to be taught responsibility for when they are adults themselves and Michelle and Jim Bob seem to be teaching their kids this along the way. All the kids know who mum and dad are and who is in charge of the household but they also know their own responsibilities which is great. They seem happy with their lives and whilst it may not be the “norm” for the majority of people I honestly don’t understand why people seem to hate them so much. Also if it’s the TV company paying for them to on the tour to the UK and Jerusalem who cares?! Are you saying that none of you would take advantage of a free trip if you got one?!?! Come on guys show a bit of love!

The Duggars are Independent Baptist Fundamentalist who follow the Quiverfull concept. One of the focuses of the movement besides having an unlimited number of kids is forced sibling relationships. It is one thing being helpful but but another going overboard being afraid the kids will be lazy and spoiled. Having 19 kids isn’t the problem. The problem comes when the parents can’t efficiently parent and the older ones can’t have their own lives whether 2 kids or 20. You can learn responsibility by getting a job or helping out with family finances.

I love the Duggar Family, I think they’re great. Its not upto anyone how many kids they have, thats their personal choice. What did people do before birth control was discovered? Don’t criticise.
I pray to God that this beautiful family expands, and May God Almighty answer their prayers.
