Now that the 16 chefs have been chosen, the competition can really begin! The heat is on in the kitchen as the reality TV competition, Top Chef: Texas gets underway on Bravo. The chefs face two challenges tonight. First they have to cook rattlesnakes for the judges and then they’re divided into two groups to cook for a Quinceanera, which is a sweet sixteen party!

The competing chefs in Texas include: Dakota Weiss, Chuy Valencia, Heather Terhune, Keith Rhodes, Whitney Otawka, Sarah Grueneberg, Chris Jones, Richie Farina, Chris Crary, Ty-Lor Boring, Nyesha Arrington, Lindsay Autry, Beverly Kim, Paul Qui, Edward Lee and Grayson Schmitz.

In the first quick fire challenge, host Padma Lakshmi tells each chef that they will be given ingredients along with rattlesnakes to cook. The chefs prepare the meal with their own personal flares for guest judge Johnny Hernandez. Chef Dakota Weiss is selected as the winner of this challenge and has immunity for this week’s elimination.

Next, the 16 chef are divided into two teams, Team Pink and Team Green. Each team will create elegant Mexican cuisine plus a cake for Blanca’s Quinceanera. The Green Team is made up of Richie, Jerome, Grayson, Edward, Chris Jones, Beverley, Heather and Chuy. The Pink Team is comprised of Chris, Tyler, Whitney, Sarah, Lindsay, Keith, Nyesha and Ty-Lor.

Both teams go shopping to get all of their ingredients. Back in the kitchen, everyone is working as fast as they can to complete their dish. Time is up and the guests begin to arrive for the party.

Host Padma Lakshmi, judges Tom Colicchio, Hugh Acheson and guest judge Johnny Hernandez along with Blanca taste test the dishes each team has prepared. After tasting all of the dishes from both of the teams the judges select the Green Team as the winning team.

The prizes the chefs are competing for include $125,000 and the title of ‘Top Chef.’ After deliberating, the judges decide to send Keith Rhodes home; however he along with the other eliminated chefs have the opportunity to win back a spot on the Top Chef finale.

What a joke and a set up. First of all, one chef on the pink team knew that the wrong type of torilla was being used and did not say anything. Unless you are very familiar with authenic mexican food, you are not going to know the correct ingredients and it does not matter if you are a chef because mexican food is not that popular in different regions of the U.S. Also, the green team had an advantage because they had a hispanic chef on their team…what the…and the judges sent home someone for using flour torillas instead of corn torillas for their meal. Top Chef Judges are too bias.
