Survivor Renewed For Seasons 25 & 26

November 17, 2011 06:55 PM by Ryan Haidet

CBS made an announcement today that I wasn’t expecting this soon: Survivor has been renewed for seasons 25 and 26.  Yes!  That’s awesome news for all of us fans.  Plus, despite his upcoming daytime talk show, Jeff Probst also confirmed that he will continue hosting the show (which he basically already said).  Want to know more?  Read on!

I think a lot of people were caught off guard with the timing of this announcement because it came four months earlier than the announcement of seasons 23 and 24.  Those weren’t even confirmed until March 9 of this year — just a few months shy of production beginning.

“I am thrilled to continue working on the longest-running reality competition show with the world’s greatest adventure crew for two more seasons,” Probst said in a press release.  “We are so thankful for the supportive fans who remain with us every season, and we promise to deliver another year of quality television.”

Executive producer Mark Burnett echoed Probst’s remarks.  “I am extremely proud of the continuing success of Survivor, which is due to the immense loyalty of our millions of fans.  We are excited to offer two more seasons of Survivor and look forward to entertaining audiences for years to come.”

CBS says Survivor: South Pacific, the 23rd edition, has been a “strong ratings performer, currently ranking as the #2 reality series on television in adults 18-49.”  The show has averaged 12.27 million viewers this season.

Season 24 of the show — Survivor: One World — has already wrapped production in Samoa and will start airing in February of 2012.  Fan sites speculate the twist of the season will include all new players who are divided by gender while living as two separate tribes on the same beach.

Season 25 will air in the fall of 2012 with season 26 debuting in early 2013.  Think about it, 26 seasons is absolutely stunning!

Are you excited about this announcement?  What do you think the future holds for the show?  How many more seasons can it last?  Sound off and leave a comment below!
