Dancing With The Stars kicked off the season 13 finale tonight as Tom announced that each of the three couples would be performing one unlearned dance, and then the ole favorite, the freestyle.
Ricki Lake and Derek Hough
Ricki Lake and Derek Hough were first to take the stage with their Cha Cha Cha, and we watched as Carrie Ann helped give Ricki some tips. Ricki Lake vowed to be sexy in this dance, and she was smoking! Donning a red mini dress, Ricki’s footwork was spot on, matching Derek perfectly as the danced to Chris Brown’s Yeah3X. The judges were up for critique, and Len kicked off by saying it was an action packed performance, deserving of the finals, but it could have been more fluid. Bruno agreed, but called it a Cha Cha running at full steam, telling Ricki she has never been better or hotter. Carrie Ann told Ricki she looked fierce, and that Ricki was living the dance. For this routine, Ricki Lake and Derek Hough earned a 27.
Ricki and Derek were back with their Freestyle, and Derek was determined to be tough on Ricki, in an attempt to get Ricki to blow this one away. Their Freestyle kicked off with Derek flipping around the stage, while Ricki pushed her way through an old life size picture of herself. This routine was a fun mix of the Quickstep and Salsa to Can’t Touch It, complete with effortless lifts. Len kicked off by saying that it was entertaining, although she lost it a little bit in the Quickstep. Bruno called it amazing, while Carrie Ann loved it and was impressed by how well Ricki handled the lifts, which she was terrified of in the past. Derek and Ricki Lake earned another 27 for this performance, totaling 54 for the pair tonight.
Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke
Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke would be tackling the Waltz for their unlearned routine tonight, and Rob got some pointers from Bruno Tonioli during rehearsals, and his best advice was to listen to Cheryl. Rob did very well with this performance, it was beautiful to watch and very romantic. The couple danced to It Is You (I Have Loved), and Cheryl looked gorgeous in a pink gown, but was it Rob who was proving to be Cinderella this season? Maybe, according to the judges anyway! Bruno kicked off by saying Rob was so full of expression, but he missed some footwork. Carrie Ann called Rob the male version of Cinderella, but she was wowed by it. Len told Rob Kardashian that he had good hold and posture, but he lost his posture at times, and ending by saying it was simply beautiful. Ron Kardashian and Cheryl Burke earned a 27 for this routine.
Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke were up next with their Freestyle, and Cheryl, who knows a thing or two about Freestyles, realized that Rob seemed to do the best with slower routines first, so they decided to go with a slower start, ending up in a quicker dance. Rob and Cheryl performed to Hi De Ho, and it was by far Rob’s best performance to date. It started off slow, but then got fast, and was full of fun lifts. Rob also made sure to throw in some booty shaking action, for the perfect Freestyle routine. We also got to see a glimpse of The Kardashian clan, complete with Kim Kardashian, in the audience cheering Rob on. Bruno kicked off calling it a brilliant performance, while Carrie Ann said that to earn a 10 you have to blow the judges away, and she was blown away. Len Goodman gushed as well about how much he loved it. Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke earned a perfect score of 30 for this performance, giving them a total of 57 points.
J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff
J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff were last, but not least tonight which was also the Cha Cha Cha. J.R. Martinez kicked off by having his ankle examined, and the doctor informed him that there was no fracture, just some swelling and pain, so with some pain killers he would be okay. Len came in to advice J.R. Martinez, and he reminded J.R. that while Derek Hough and Cheryl Burke have won the mirror ball in the past, Karina has not. J.R. Martinez and Karina performed their Cha Cha Cha to Jennifer Lopez‘s Let’s Get Loud and it was performed well. The crowd went wild and could not stop cheering for these two, but the judges were not as crazy about the performance. Carrie Ann kicked off by saying J.R.’s musicality was off a little, while Len Goodman thought it was brave that J.R. Martinez did a lot of the dance on his own, but that it was not that good. Bruno said he really loved the mood that J.R. set, and that the character was great. J.R. and Karina earned a 24, with one 8 from Carrie Ann, a 7 from Len, and a 9 from Bruno, for this performance.
J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff decided to go with a Latin style routine for their Freestyle, and at the last minute, J.R. decided to change some of the lifts for Karina’s safety. The pair performed to Whine Up, and talk about a come back! This routine was rocking – by far the best of the night! It was fun, full of energy and dangerous lifts. The crowd loved it, as did the judges. Carrie Ann kicked off by saying that was the way to come back, and they had the sickest lifts ever. Len said two things were revealed in this dance – Karina’s body and his talent. Bruno called it brilliant and gushed about what a great comeback it was. J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff earned a 30 for this performance, giving them a total of 54 for the night.
That meant that for the first time this season, Rob Kardashian was in first place! Ricki and J.R. tied for 2nd place, so it is time for you to vote! Don’t assume that your favorite is safe – go vote!
