J.R. Martinez Receives Praise From U.S. Secretary Of Defense

November 28, 2011 01:00 PM by Megan Thompson

J.R. Martinez impressed many people while he was on the ABC hit show, Dancing With The Stars.  America fell in love with this war hero for both his dancing ability and his positive attitude.  It seems another person noticed J.R.’s influence on America, Leon Panetta, the U.S. Secretary of Defense.  Keep reading to find out what Leon has to say about J.R. Martinez.

J.R. Martinez was once relatively unknown to most Americans, except All My Children fans.  Since winning Dancing With The Stars, J.R. Martinez has won over numerous fans across the globe.  He was named the Grand Marshal of the rose parade and he was even named one of People Magazine’s sexiest men of 2011.

It seems even the government has taken notice of J.R. and how he has brought more awareness to our soldiers.  Leon Panetta, the Secretary of Defense, wrote and called J.R. after his win on DWTS.  In the letter Panetta wrote, “over the course of this competition, your spirit captivated the nation and your victory sends a powerful message about the strength and resilience of our wounded warriors.”  When Panetta talked with J.R. he invited him to the Pentagon, in the hopes the two men could meet. It seems that J.R.’s mirror ball trophy win is the “talk of the troops.”

There is no doubt J.R. is an inspiration to many soldiers and Americans.  It will be interesting to see what J.R. Martinez does next with his “celebrity” status.  He currently has plans to write a book and continue acting, but it seems the sky is the limit for J.R.
