The Sing-Off Recap: The Live Finale

Dreams come true tonight on NBC’s reality TV a capella singing competition, The Sing-Off. The top three groups opened the live show singing Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Fee.l” America has voted and their choices have been tallied. The eliminated seven groups also returned to perform for the live finale. Keep reading to find out which group wins the competition!

The reality singing competition showcases a variety of groups all vying for a $200,000 prize and a Sony Music recording contract. Host, Nick Lachey announced that with the holidays around the corner the top groups visited different organizations to spread a message of hope and cheer. The video clips were shown during the finale. The three expert judges critiquing the singers and offering advice are all from the music industry: Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman and Sara Bareilles.

Pentatonix from Arlington, Texas, is a five member group that has a modern style and draws influences from several eclectic electro genres. They took the stage first during the live finale and performed “Without You.” The judges said this group always takes risks and it pays off for them. Later, the group is joined by host, Nick Lachey to sing “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” his former group 98 degrees’ hit.

Urban Method from Denver, CO sang “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes featuring Adam Levine. The judges said the group is unique and has truly created hip-hop/a capella. Later, they sang “Gonna Get Over You” with judge Sara Bareilles.

Dartmouth Aires from Hanover, N.H. is Dartmouth College’s oldest a cappella group and includes 15 fun loving, high energy guys. They sang Meatloaf’s “Paradise by the Dashboard Light.” The judges said the group gave an amazing performance. Later, the group sang “Not the Same” with judge Ben Folds.

Then the women of this season’s The Sing-Off came together to sing Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel” while the guys sang Bruce Springsteen’s “Born To Run.”

The Godfather of Motown, Smokey Robinson performed “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me” with Afro Blue.

The three groups on-stage anxiously awaited the results. Nick announced that one group has been eliminated and that group is Urban Method. For their farewell song they sing Diddy Dirty Money and Skylar Grey’s “Coming Home.”

After America voted, Pentatonix is announced as the new winner of The Sing-Off. For their last song they sang, “Eye Of The Tiger.”
