The Amazing Race Recap: A Race To The Finals

December 04, 2011 07:31 PM by Megan Thompson

Tonight on CBS, the four remaining teams left in The Amazing Race fight to be in the finals. Will your favorite couple be in the final three? Keep reading for all The Amazing Race details.

The eleventh leg of the race starts out in Brussels.  Andy and Tommy are the first to leave, since they were the winners of the last leg.  Contestants find out they have to dress up as comic book characters, but aren’t told who they are.  The challenge will be to find out which characters they are and get to the next clue.  Jeremy and Sandy are the second team to leave, Ernie and Cindy depart third and Amani and Marcus are the last team to leave.  Teams begin asking strangers on the street which comic book characters they are.  Andy and Tommy find a computer and do some research to learn they are looking for Tintin.  Jeremy and Sandy are the first team to solve the mystery and learn they are headed to Panama City, Panama.  The only team to slightly stumble on the challenge is Andy and Tommy, but everyone ends up on the same flight to Panama.

In Panama the teams arrive at night and must take a boat to head to their next clue.  Jeremy and Sandy are currently in first, but Andy and Tommy are right behind them.  It’s pitch black out and Jeremy and Sandy’s boat gets stuck, allowing other teams to pass them.  Andy and Tommy arrive first and learn they must sign up for tattoo appointments.  Cindy is frustrated that she and Ernie are in last place.  The next morning, the snowboarders are the first to receive their tattoos which end up being the clue to their next destination.

Road Block:

Not a good road block if you are afraid of heights, because teams must walk a rope from one building to another.  The snowboarders quickly complete the challenge with no fear and are team number one. Sandy is terrified of heights, but she has to go because Jeremy has already done his allotted road blocks.  She might have been scared, but Sandy bravely finishes the challenge.  Cindy and Amani also complete the tightrope challenge.

After the road block teams are given a clue which will lead them to a statue. Andy and Tommy have no problem finding the clue and it’s time for a detour.

Detour:

Filet or salt is the detour for this leg of the race.  Filet is delivering fish to vendors in a marketplace, while salt is making a pair of sandals.  Andy and Tommy choose the salt challenge.  The other teams start to arrive at the detour and decide which challenge to tackle.  Both Jeremy and Sandy and Cindy and Ernie choose to make the sandals, while Amani and Marcus decide to deliver the fish.  As usual, the snowboarders are the first to finish the detour.  Cindy is getting angry at Ernie’s sandal making skills, but they finish in second place.

However, Jeremy and Sandy are right behind them and it’s a taxi race to the next clue. Amani and Marcus quickly finish the fish challenge moving them to second place.

Now the teams are headed to a square where they are told the name of the pit stop will be where the dancing girls are.  A group of girls are dancing with large skirts and jewelry on; the name of the final pit stop is actually embroidered on the one woman’s dress.  Andy and Tommy arrive at the square first and take the name off the medallion, which is not correct, and give it to their taxi driver.  The other teams arrive where the dancers are, but are stumped as to what the clue is.  Andy and Tommy are on a wild goose chase through Panama with their taxi driver.  Finally the snowboarders are headed back to the square, hoping that the other teams might still be there.  Ernie and Cindy also take the name off the medallion, while Jeremy and Sandy sketch the building that appears on the woman’s necklace.  Amani and Marcus also get into the cab and drive off.  The three cab drivers call each other and tell each other the correct place to go.  So now all three cabs are headed to the final pit stop.  Since all the teams haven’t seen the snowboarders, they assume the team is in first place.  Jeremy and Sandy get to the pit stop and are surprised to learn they are in first place!  Ernie and Cindy are relieved that they are team number two.  Finally Amani and Marcus arrive and they are thrilled to learn they have beat out the snowboarders.  Andy and Tommy finally go back to the square and find the name of the pit stop on the dancer’s skirt.

They quickly head to the pit stop, but Andy and Tommy learn they have finished in last place.  It’s quite a shock that Andy and Tommy are out of the race, but anything can happen in The Amazing Race.

Andy and Tommy got “hosed” by those Panama cab drivers! None of the other 3 teams were going to the correct place until Jeremy and Sandy’s driver blabbed to the other 2 cab drivers exactly where to go. Andy and Tommy would be in the finals if the other 3 teams had played fair. I fully expected Phil to do something about what happened but that’s life – not always FAIR.
