Tonight on The X Factor it’s the last chance for finalists Chris Rene, Melanie Amaro, and Josh Krajcik to prove themselves worthy of a $5 million dollar contract and a Pepsi commercial. Steve Jones introduces judges L.A. Reid, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and Simon Cowell, before bringing out the final three to dramatic music and screams from the crowd. Keep reading for all of the performance highlights and judges’ remarks…

The show kicks off with Simon Cowell predicting the closest final ever. Each contestant will sing two times tonight – straws were drawn earlier in the week to determine the order.

Josh Krajcik is up first. With a dark, spooky forest behind him, Josh begins to sing Uninvited by Alanis Morrisette. Much to the crowd’s delight, Josh introduces Alanis and she joins him to perform the tune. Their voices compliment one another very well – sounds amazing! After, Alanis remarks on Josh’s soulfulness. L.A. tells Josh it was a natural pairing – they just started at the top. Paula couldn’t think of a better way to open the show. She admires that Josh kept his identity throughout. Simon says Josh seemed a little intimidated at the beginning, but as the song got into gear, the old Josh came back. He gives it 8 out of 10. Nicole says Josh gave to Alanis as well as the crowd. Josh’s grandmother is shown with a huge crowd in his hometown.

Chris Rene, who is eight months sober as of yesterday, takes the stage now. He jumps right into Complicated by Avril Lavigne. It’s a little pitchy, but when he introduces Avril, they match up really well. Chris raps between verses and they bounce around and have fun with it.  After, Avril says Chris is amazing – he kicked ass! Nicole says it was shaky in the take-off but he came out on top – his energy is infectious. Paula says the competition isn’t about note-for-note – it’s about connecting with the audience. She loves him. Simon acknowledges he was nervous, but says his joy and confidence came through. L.A. says he looked at home with Avril – he agrees with Simon it could be a record released tomorrow. Chris is moved to tears by neighbors and folks from rehab fronting a huge crowd in his hometown.

Melanie Amaro appears onstage and begins singing I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly. She introduces R Kelly after the first verse and he joins her in performing the tune.  Together they are very powerful – it’s incredible! R Kelly says Melanie is going all the way to the moon – unbelievable. L.A. felt like Melanie got overshadowed by R Kelly – he expected more. Nicole thinks she did the best she could in that key. Paula says she could have shown more emotion, but the conviction Melanie has had, has made them believe in her. Simon tells her not to listen to Grumpy and Dumpy – she showed respect to the person she was singing with – it was an incredible duet. They check in at Melanie’s church in Florida, where the assembled crowd is pumped up!

Steve introduces a performance by Cirque de Soleil’s Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour.  Josh, Melanie, and Chris appear onstage singing They Don’t Care About Us.

Josh Krajcik is ready for his final performance – this time it will be by himself. Josh plays guitar and croons At Last by Etta James – he works his raw vocals to their optimum benefit – it’s fantastic! L.A. says he’s proud and remarks how at home he looks on the stage – such a rock star. Paula adds that he’s authentic and kind-hearted – he owns the stage. Simon has to hand it to him – this is the five million dollar song – and it was all about him. Nicole says Josh has delivered from day one – she’s honored to be part of his journey. Josh learns his hometown, Wooster, Ohio, has declared Josh Krajcik Day.

Chris Rene will now perform his final song. Will it be an original again? Chris comes out with a suit jacket and fedora perched at a jaunty angle. He sings about his eight months of sobriety in Young Homie. The crowed goes wild! Nicole says he’s serving his purpose in life with that song – it’s his anthem. Paula shouts that he’s magic! He’s a consummate singer/songwriter/performer who makes everyone fall in love with him. Simon says that was his five million dollar song! He gives him kudos for sticking to their deal – he hopes America gets behind him. L.A. says he poured all of himself into that song – he loves what he just did! Chris wipes away tears. His hometown crowd is shown again – the Mayor of Santa Cruz is proud; his friends tell him he’s an inspiration.

Melanie Amaro now has the opportunity to sing her five million dollar song. Melanie appears in an outfit befitting a true diva and belts out Listen by Beyonce. It’s extremely powerful and strong! L.A. calls it a $50 million dollar performance! Nicole says she empowered her – and that’s what music is all about. Paula calls it a stellar performance! Simon says he is so, so proud of what she just did there. He thinks based on that performance – she should be the winner of The X Factor. Melanie’s church in Florida is shown again. The Mayor is there and her fans and friends are going crazy – they believe she can fly!

This is certainly going to be close, but only one can win.The results of America’s voting will be revealed tomorrow night. Pit Bull, Ne-Yo, 50 Cent, Leona Lewis, and Justin Bieber will perform! For real!
