It’s as if Keeping Up With The Kardashians is everyone’s top New Year’s resolution this 2012, because the Kardashian clan isn’t going anywhere: though the family already has four reality shows in constant rotation on E! and collected a rumored total of $65 million in 2011, Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner still only consider it the tip of the iceberg. ”The show could go on for years,” says Kim, The Hollywood Reporter’s queen of reality television, “but when the fun stops so will we.” So when is that, exactly? Read on for more sound bytes from Kim and her momanager, as well as from other celebs who are fine with falling behind on the family’s antics, including actors Daniel Craig and Jonah Hill!
The family always has a reality show on television at any time of the year, whether it’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, Kourtney and Kim Take New York or Khloe and Lamar. How much longer will each of their careers last?
“These shows could really go on for years,” says Kim. “There are so many of us, but I think we’ll see more of my younger siblings [Kendall and Kylie].” The young Jenner girls have already expressed that they prefer to stay out of the spotlight, unlike their older siblings, but Kendall’s birthday special just aired recently…was it possibly a tester for their own spinoff?
Actor Daniel Craig told British GQ of his Kardashian distaste in their January 2012 issue. “Look at the Kardashians, they’re worth millions. Millions!” he ranted. “I don’t think they were that badly off to begin with, but now look at them. You see that and you think, ‘What, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f*cking idiot on television and then you’ll pay me millions?‘”
Craig is not alone though; Jonah Hill, who was once a fan of the clan, openly confessed that he felt like a fool when Kim ended her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, and cannot understand how their reality shows are still in such popular production.
“I have friends who work in TV and the Kardashians get higher ratings than their TV shows. Shows that people actually work hard on — writing and creating and trying to tell stories. The fact that the Kardashians could be more popular than a show like Mad Men is disgusting.”
They echo what Barbara Walters told the Kardashian women last week: “You don’t really act; you don’t sing; you don’t dance…you don’t have any — forgive me — any talent!”
The family’s “momanager” Kris Jenner stands by her business model. “I’m really proud at how hard we’ve all worked this year and what we’ve accomplished,” she says. “We roll as one big unit, so whether something’s sad, happy or tragic, we come together as a family and everything falls into place.”
So how much longer do you think the Kardashians will be on the air? Don’t forget that their careers aren’t just limited to E!; so far, two siblings have already competed on Dancing With The Stars, with Rob Kardashian taking the stage up until the final episode.
