Last night’s finale episode of The X Factor not only crowned a winner with a five million dollar recording contract, but it was also packed with amazing performances: holiday songs by the three finalists, plus some chart-topping hits by Pitbull, Ne-yo and 50 Cent! But one of the most highly anticipated performances of the finale was when Justin Bieber split the stage, first with Stevie Wonder and then with previously eliminated contested Drew Ryniewicz, the 14-year-old folk songbird mentored by Simon Cowell and is ridden with Bieber fever! What did Drew say about performing alongside her superstar crush?
“He gave me quite a bit of advice, he told me that I might not be the winner of the show, [but] that doesn’t mean I am not a winner,” Drew revealed. “He said that I would be going far and he was rooting for me! He saw my performances and he said I was beautiful.”
Bieber first reached out to Drew when she was eliminated on the December 1st episode, despite pleas from Simon Cowell to give her another chance.
“Keep your head up,” he tweeted to Drew. “I lost my first competition too. This is just the beginning for you. Never say never. Best wishes.”
On last night’s final episode, Bieber sang The Christmas Song with the legendary Stevie Wonder, and then switched to the upbeat Christmas song Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. But just before singing the last phrase of the song, Bieber paused the performance, saying, “Wait, I gotta do something…Drew, come here.” Drew walked onstage and, after a hug, he asked Drew, “You ready?” Drew sang the last lyrics of the song.
Drew was obviously overjoyed to sing with Bieber, but that wasn’t all she felt. “I didn’t meet Selena; I heard she was in the building while I was singing with Justin,” Drew said. “I was like, ‘awkward!’”
