The X Factor’s Josh Krajcik, Chris Rene, And Astro Get Record Deals

December 28, 2011 02:00 PM by Lisa Princ

Season one of The X Factor may have ended with Melanie Amaro as the winner of a record deal, but according to Simon Cowell, so have some other contestants. Runner-up Josh Krajcik, along with Chris Rene, and Astro have all reportedly gotten record deals coming their way. Read on for more…

The X Factor executive producer Simon Cowell, who co-owns Syco Music with Sony Music, has confirmed that Josh Krajcik, Chris Rene, and Astro will all be getting music deals. Simon Cowell recently revealed in an interview about the past contestants getting record deals: “Anyone we’re genuinely not interested in, they’ll be let go. There is a lot of interest in a lot of the artists. We can’t sign everyone, but there’s going to be quite a few that are going to get deals. You’re not going to let Astro go. You’re not going to let Chris go or let Josh go. We’d be mad. But Melanie Amaro is the priority.” Simon then added that he will not let Josh or Chris go as he is certain someone will sign them, and we have to agree there!

As for Astro, whose real name is Brian Bradley, is a featured artist on a re-recording of Cher Lloyd’s Want U Back. Lloyd came in fourth place on The U.K. X Factor back in 2010. Astro is reportedly being snagged by Simon Cowell as well, although no one is expecting any official announcements until the new year hits. I’m fine with everyone being signed by Simon except Astro. He is a jerk!

I am so glad to hear that Josh and Chris will be getting record deals. They were the real artists in the final 3. Melanie just had a beautiful voice, like so many female singers.

Josh and Chris were real artist who were plying their trades with limited success. They each responded to this limited success in different ways, dependent upon the sum of their life experiences.

Josh’s interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah is the best I have ever heard. Better even than the versions I have listened to on-line by Leonard Cohen himself. I hope that Josh will do a full lyric version in the future (realizing that there were time constraints on X-Factor).

What can I say about Chris Rene. He blended the required renditions of other artists with his own creations. He did an excellent job of blending them. His “Young Homie” and other creations show that he must have had an epiphany during re-hab. He is just what the dis-affected and down-trodden members of our society need to give them hope.

I am glad that I listened to X-Factor this season or I would not be so readily aware of Josh and Chris, who I would go to see in concert in a NY minute. But I feel that rather than the $5 million plus Pepsi commercial prize was unfair. I feel that $2 million + Pepsi commercial for first place, $2 million for second place and $1 million for third place would be more fair. I don’t think I will listen to X-Factor next season if they have the same prize schedule.
