Earning awards isn’t always good news for celebrities. Indeed, Kim Kardashian, star of E!’s “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”, probably isn’t thrilled to have earned one of the first “Celebrity Grinch Awards” from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Along with singer Janet Jackson, Kim Kardashian earned the award for her love of fur.
PETA blasted Kim Kardashian for wearing fur regularly. They have even recently developed a new print poster, which features one photo of two scared looking fox cubs accompanied by the headline, “Kim: These babies miss their mother. Is she on your back?” Another photo on the poster features Kim wearing a fur scarf.
PETA took their criticism of Kim Kardashian one step further, though, and stepped away from animal rights to focus on her recent short-lived marriage to NBA forward Kris Humphries. PETA’s “Celebrity Grinch Award” announcement included the statement, “”Some have speculated that Kim Kardashian’s wedding to NBA forward Kris Humphries was fake. Too bad the socialite princess doesn’t have the same enthusiasm for faking her fur.”
The real irony in Kim Kardashian earning the “Celebrity Grinch Award” is her own sister, Khloe Kardashian, starred in PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign back in 2009. After Khloe sat down with PETA representatives and watched videos of how animals are skinned for fur, she immediately agreed to pose naked for their campaign. She explained that once she understood how the animals were treated, there was no doubt that she wanted to help PETA’s campaign by starring in their campaign.
Maybe someday Khloe Kardashian will convince Kim Kardashian to do the same.
