On tonight’s episode of Top Chef: Texas on Bravo, the chefs are challenged to create innovative food that will impress precise palates and then it’s time for an old-fashioned BBQ. The guest judge is culinary author Chef Nathan Myhrvold. Keep reading to find out who stays and who has to pack up their knives!
The nine remaining chefs on season nine of Bravo’s hit reality TV show include: Sarah Grueneberg, Chris Jones, Chris Crary, Ty-Lor Boring, Lindsay Autry, Beverly Kim, Paul Qui, Edward Lee and Grayson Schmitz. They’re all vying for a feature in Food & Wine magazine, a showcase at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, $100,000 and the title of ‘Top Chef.’
Host Padma Lakshmi along with Chef Nathan Myhrvold tells the competing chefs that they will have to cook modernist cuisine. The winner of the Quickfire Challenge receives immunity and Chef Nathan’s book “Modernist Cusine.” Ty-Lor Boring is selected as the Quickfire Challenge.
Next, the heat is on when the chefs face-off in an old-fashioned Texas Barbecue showdown. The chefs form groups of three’s themselves. The Red Team is made up of Ed, Ty and Sarah; the White Team is Chris C., Beverly and Chris J.; the Blue Team is Grayson, Paul and Lindsay. Each group has to cook a dinner with pork spare ribs, chicken and brisket.
The chefs stayed up all night and the sun is strong the next day. Everyone is struggling to get through it but Sarah can’t breathe and starts to have an attack and is taken to the hospital. She returns to help Ty and Ed serve the judges and sits down again prompting Ed to voice his suspicions to Ty.
The judges panel is made up of head Chef Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons and guest judge Chef Nathan Myhrvold. It’s announced that the winning team will get $15,000. The Blue Team is selected as the winning team! The judges choose to eliminate Chris Crary.
