Bigger isn’t always better, says Tori Spelling! The family who headlines Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood has traded in their 7,000-square-foot LA mansion for a much smaller home in Malibu, and Tori says she doesn’t need a big house to be happy. Even though she just had another child and already “hoards” so many animals, why did she and Dean McDermott opt for a smaller house?
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott moved from Hollywood to Malibu in order to fulfill one of Tori’s lifelong dreams: farming.
“Spacewise, we have less than half of what we had before, but our old home wasn’t conducive to farm living,” Tori told Life & Style. “Sustainable farming is a lifestyle we want to teach our children, we wanted to grow our own vegetables and fruit trees.”
Tori has three children with Dean — Liam, 4, Stella, 3, and Hattie, 2 months — and a handful of farm animals: chickens, dogs, goats and a pig. Their new “home sweet home” sits on almost 2 acres of land and an organic garden.
The girl who grew up in the 57,000-square-foot Spelling Manor — complete with a bowling alley, gift-wrapping room and parking for 100 cars — is more than happy with her new lot.
“It’s true that the simpler life is such a better way,” she said. “We all accumulate so much, and we feel like we can’t live without stuff. We really don’t need any of that stuff to make it work and be happy.”
