Even though Melanie Amaro is still hoping to pursue a career in nursing sometime in the future, the winner of The X Factor is currently preparing for her debut album. What kind of music is she hoping to record, now that she’s working with both Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid? Note: it’s won’t just be full of big ballads, the way her song lists were while on the show!
Initially, she auditioned with a flawless rendition of Beyonce’s “Listen” from the movie Dreamgirls. And after rising throughout the competition with Michael Jackson’s ”Earth Song,” R. Kelly’s “The World’s Greatest,” “Desperado” by The Eagles, “When You Believe” by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey and the sultry song “Feelin’ Good,” Amaro usually stayed within the slow beats that her diva-like vocal cords thrived.
However, she confirms that her debut album won’t solely be composed of such showstopping anthems.
“I’ll still have the big ballads, but then I’m hoping to throw something out there that fans won’t expect so they’ll be like, ‘Oh my God, there’s like different stages of her or different like genres that she can do,’” Amaro said in a new interview. “So I can do lots of different types of genres of music and I wasn’t able to show that a lot on the show, but I’ll hopefully be able to do that on the album.”
As the winner, Amaro was just signed to Epic Records and will be developing her debut album with both her show mentor as well as fellow judge, L.A. Reid.
“I am so excited to start recording my debut album for Epic under the guidance of L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell,” says Amaro. “This is a dream come true for me.”
This will be the first time working with L.A. Reid directly, since she was always following suit from Simon, yet she has no doubt about the deal.
“(He said) trust my voice…He always told me like, ‘Girl, you can sing. You can sing. You really can sing.’ He was like, ‘I believe in you,’” she recalled. “Just to hear words like that from L.A. Reid … that’s really big for me, you know.”
L.A. Reid has expressed his joys to sign the X Factor winner as well, and release her first album later this year.
“I joined The X Factor to be able to discover undeniable talent such as Melanie,” he said. “I am pleased that she is now signed to Epic Records because I believe we have only scratched the surface on uncovering her talent and her inevitable journey to super-stardom.”
