James Van Der Beek Turns Down Dancing With The Stars But Adopts DWTS Sitcom Plot

January 10, 2012 04:20 PM by Ashley Lee

Why did James Van Der Beek turn down the opportunity to compete in Dancing With The Stars? He may not be participating in the ballroom dancing competition, but in his upcoming sitcom, his character wins the entire reality show! Read on for details on DWTS  in Van Der Beek’s new ABC series, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.

James Van Der Beek was offered a spot on Dancing with the Stars but had to turn it down.

“I was too busy working,” he said. “It looks like fun, but it’s just a huge time commitment.”

However, in his new sitcom Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, Van Der Beek plays himself and competes quite well in Dancing With The Stars.

“I think I’m allowed to say that within [the show], I won Dancing With The Stars,” he revealed. “The way I do it [on the show] is kind of obsessive and just very extreme. And that is even more fun. I had four months to learn my dance as opposed to four weeks.”

In his new show, the actor puts it all out there for the sake of laughs and isn’t afraid to make fun of himself.

“I had to audition against four James Van Der Beeks for this role!” he laughed, “I tell them to go for whatever is funniest and don’t worry about offending me.”

Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 premieres midseason on ABC.
