Everybody benefits from having Steven Tyler as an American Idol judge: the hopeful contestants, the happy producers, the show’s audiences…and Aerosmith. The lead rocker attests that his weekly presence on American Idol has boosted the band’s sales and exposed them to a brand new generation of fans. Read on for Tyler talking about Aerosmith’s upcoming album — their first in over seven years!
“Really, I can’t go anywhere,” said Steven Tyler to The Hollywood Reporter. ”It was like that before, but I can’t go anywhere now because of the show and the notoriety, because it took [Aerosmith's] sales up 260 percent last year.”
Tyler added that his spot in the American Idol judges’ panel has also “brought younger kids to our music.”
“It’s been nothing but good,” he said.
The Aerosmith singer also dished the details on the upcoming album from the legendary rock band.
“All of it’s been written but I’ve got to lay lyrics on it and I haven’t had a lot of time,” said Tyler. “What I’ve listened to so far knocked me out. I know a good song and I know what gets played on the radio. I’m not that pretentious to say we’ve got hits, but we’ve got something and that’s all that matters.”
Tyler will be meeting with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry next week to continue working on tracks. It will be the band’s first album in over seven years.
Tyler joked, “It’s Aerosmith, how do you hide from my big mouth?”
