Days after announcing that their daughter, Jessica Joy Rees lost her battle with cancer, the Rees family celebrates her life with a special service held today (January 11) at the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California. Keep reading for details on how you can participate in Jessie’s Celebration Service, and for more on the American Idol fan who captured the hearts of thousands of people across the country and became a poster child for pediatric cancer patients everywhere.
Quickly becoming a poster-child for pediatric cancer patients, Jessica Joy Rees was introduced to the world during an episode of the FOX reality show, American Idol, where she cheered on her favorite contestant, Casey Abrams with a sign that featured the acronym “NEGU” (Never Ever Give Up), which she often used at the end of her blog posts as a reminder to other children with cancer to keep fighting.
After spending 10 months fighting inoperable brain tumors, chronicling her disease online, and helping other cancer patients with her “JoyJars,” 12-year-old Jessica Joy Rees passed away on Thursday, January 5th.
Since the news of her death, thousands of Jessica’s supporters have posted updates on her Facebook page, wishing her family well.
Today, the Rees family and many others who were touched by Jessie remember her life and her cause during a special Celebration Service, which will be held at the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, where Rees’ father, Erik, serves as a pastor.
Those who wish to participate in the service are invited by the Rees family to do so by watching the webcast here.
