Last night on NBC‘s The Biggest Loser, we watched a huge risk that turned into a big disaster for Dolvett Quince‘s red team. In the elimination room, even Alison Sweeney was shocked that the red team chose to send Mike Messina home, instead of Kim, who was partially responsible for the team’s failure. After his elimination, Mike Messina blamed his elimination on a bad week. Read on to hear more!
The Biggest Loser‘s Mike Messina was eliminated last night, despite the fact that most of us thought Kim would be the one to go, after her poor decision to bet 94 lbs, and her poor loss for the week. Mike Messina did not appear shocked by elimination, even if most of us were. In his post elimination interview, Mike reveals why he thought they chose him versus Kim. Check out Mike Messina’s press interview below! Just a side note, Mike was also sick at the time of his interview, so he did not take many questions.
Question: Why do you think that you were eliminated instead of Kim?
Mike Messina: That is an interesting question. I think Kim is a really strong competitor, and everyone saw that. I had a bit of a rough week, as I over trained the first week – harder than I should have and I was not feeling well the second week. Everyone saw some weakness in me. It was a way of capitalizing on that, and they focused on me.
Question: How are you managing your food and nicotine addiction now?
Mike Messina: I am staying focused on the positive. Food is a funny addiction because you have to eat. Nicotine is not a need, but more of a nervous habit. Acupuncture is helping, and the patch is helping. The biggest
thing that is helping is my daughter. The only thing she asked for, for her birthday this February, was that I quit chewing. So, I want to make her proud of me.
Question: We saw a lot of personal issues of yours as the focus of last night’s episode, do you feel you were misunderstood? And what would you like America to know about you that wasn’t portrayed?
Mike Messina: That I am a good guy, and I want the best for people. I was just trying to have fun. I am just an insecure big teddy bear that gets misunderstood. I did the best I could with what was going on.
Question: The environment on the ranch seems very negative this season, is that just for show, or is it real?
Mike Messina: I would say there was definitely a fair amount of tension on the ranch. I was more focused on my own journey there than anyone else’s. I mean, the drama happened around me, and I was trying to not get involved, as I was dealing with my own personal drama. I was not really paying attention to anyone else.
Question: Did you enjoy the experience?
Mike Messina: It had its moments. I did enjoy many things. The excitement and anticipation of what was to come. All of the accomplishments, I did enjoy.
Question: How was Dolvett as a trainer?
Mike Messina: Dolvett’s a great guy, a great trainer, and you know, I was happy with Dolvett.
Question: Are you closer to your brother now?
Mike Messina: I’d say that we are definitely closer than we have ever been since the show. We never had anything in common aside from our father, so yes, we have gotten closer.
Question: What did you learn on the ranch aside from how to exercise and eat right?
Mike Messina: I learned a lot about myself and the people on the journey. I learned that you don’t really know someone until you know them.
Question: What challenges have you faced since being home?
Mike Messina: That there are real temptations everywhere, such as people eating things that I used to eat. And I am not eating those because I have a mission. Mentally, emotionally, and spiritually I know I can’t eat those things, and it has been a challenge.
Question: Do you have any go-to healthy snacks or meals that help you?
Mike Messina: Yes, I eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. An apple and a little baby bella cheese is like an apple pie to me.
Best of luck to Mike Messina, who has lost 72 lbs to date. Tune in next week to The Biggest Loser on NBC!
