Survivor: One World — No Redemption Island

January 14, 2012 03:00 PM by Ryan Haidet

Although little new details have been released about the upcoming season, a short 11 second teaser for Survivor: One World confirms that one major twist will not be returning.  After using it for two consecutive seasons, Redemption Island has been voted off the show.  Read on to watch the teaser video for more!

While many fans expected that Redemption Island would be nixed from Survivor: One World, it wasn’t confirmed until CBS released the teaser video earlier this week.  Watch the teaser below, which clearly declares there is “zero redemption” in the upcoming season:

For many fans, this is happy news because some Survivor purists were very angry with the concept of Redemption Island.  The idea that somebody could still win the game after being voted off multiple times wasn’t the kind of twist many fans appreciated.  In fact, there were loads of people who despise the concept.

But I have a feeling the Redemption Island twist could likely return in a future edition because host Jeff Probst absolutely loves it.  At the finale for Survivor: South Pacific, Probst asked the live studio audience during a commercial break what they felt about Redemption Island.  Half the audience cheered and the other half booed, which Probst said confirmed it’s a great twist proven by the split opinions.

Survivor: One World, which marks the show’s 24th season, premieres on Wednesday, Feb. 15.  The cast will feature 18 all-new contestants living on one beach as two separate tribes divided by gender.  The cast should be announced very soon.  Watch a preview for the season below:

What do you think of Redemption Island vanishing from Survivor: One World?  Do you like the twist or despite it?  Why?  Sound off and leave a comment below!

I hate Redemption Island. It sucks worse thing in the history of survivor! the only reason people cheered for it because it saved ozzy…. and people worship him for some dumb reason.

Survivor, My all time favorite show, needs to get back to it’s roots. No Immunity Idols, No Redemption island! I understand the need to change things up, but enough already…get back to what made Survivor the hit is was back in the day! I am happy is still does well in the ratings after all these seasons, but I think going back to the original concept would be a welcome “change”!

I’m less enthused about bringing back the old contestants to play again and again. Talk about redemption. Rob Mariano proved if you keep playing the game long enough you will eventually win. Now put it to rest and let new people play against eachother instead of giving the has-beens second, third and fourth chances.

My husband and I like redemption island…not so ‘final’ for someone wanting to stay in the game…or for someone at home cheering a particular person – gives you a reason to hope they make it back

I loved redemption island as well as having some of the old players back it was fun, have watched the show from the first one. can not wait until it starts again. I really loved it when Rob Mariano won, as when his wife won. they really made the show more fun.
