Today is a great day for Glee fans everywhere: tonight is not only the return of new episodes of the series on FOX (which also features Real Housewives‘ NeNe Leakes), but Oxygen has just announced that The Glee Project will officially be back for a second season! When will the show be expected to air, and what can we Glee fans expect in the upcoming season? Read on for details on a few changes and some familiar faces, as well as inside scoops on when you’ll be seeing Damian McGinty, Samuel Larsen, Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell on Glee next!
The Glee Project, which searches for multi-episode guest stars to be featured on Glee, has already begun casting for its second season after receiving thousands of online audition submission and rounding out a multi-city casting tour. However, it had yet to be announced whether the show would actually follow through with the second season just yet. Thankfully, Oxygen has announced that The Glee Project will be back this summer!
The second season will have fourteen final contenders instead of the first season’s twelve, and it will also debut new themes and all new songs. Glee creator Ryan Murphy will return as a judge, along with producer Dante Di Loreto, choreographer Zach Woodlee and vocal coach Nikki Anders.
Will the show once again reward their runner-up contestants with a guest roles as well? Hopefully so, as both season one winners Damian McGinty and Samuel Larsen were each given seven-episode arcs on the show, and runner-ups Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell were each awarded two-episode guest roles.
McGinty has been appearing as Irish-exchange student Rory Flanagan in the current season of Glee, nailing ballads left and right and wooing women with his adorable Irish accent. Though Samuel Larsen has yet to start his episodes, Murphy has said that he might play a relative of Puck’s (Mark Salling) and will appear very soon!
Lindsay Pearce has appeared twice as the lead in a rival choir group that dropped their leading costars’ jaws with an amazing number from “Anything Goes” and Alex Newell is expected to appear in relation to Jonathan Groff’s (Jesse St. James) return to Glee. Murphy said Newell will appear as the “lovechild of Kurt and Mercedes” and turn to McKinley High pair for advice!
What do you think of The Glee Project’s characters on Glee? Who do you think should become a regular on the FOX hit show?
