Sad news for The Voice coach Blake Shelton. The country superstar and coach of the NBC reality show lost his father, Dick Shelton, on Tuesday evening (January 17), leading him to reschedule his upcoming concert dates in order to spend time with his family and grieve. Read on for more details.
Sadly, on Tuesday, January 17th, Blake Shelton’s father, Dick Shelton, passed away in Oklahoma, surrounded by family and friends.
“I appreciate your understanding during this difficult time and thank you for all your prayers. Your support means the world to me. I love you guys,” Shelton, wrote on his website.
Apparently, Blake’s dad’s health had been declining for the past year. In early December, Dick was hospitalized with pneumonia.
On December 5, the Voice coach mentioned his father when accepting the first of his many 2011 American Country Awards.
“I want to say hi to my dad back home … he’s been having a pretty rough couple of weeks, and I know he’s watching tonight,” Shelton said. “I love you, Dad, and I dedicate this to you, man. Thank you.”
Immediately after the show, Blake flew home to be with his family.
In the wake of his father’s death, Blake Shelton is rescheduling four concerts that were planned for this week – in Rapid City, SD, Bismarck, ND, and Billings and Bozeman, Mont.. These performances will now take place in March.
Shelton will return to the stage next Thursday in Columbus, GA, where his tour will resume.
Our condolences to the entire Shelton family.
