Kardashian Barbie And Magazine Deals Fall Through Due To Kris’ Demands

January 21, 2012 08:00 AM by Ashley Lee

What was your reaction when you first heard that the Kim Kardashian and her family were starting their own magazine? How about becoming Barbie dolls? Sorry to all the Keeping Up With The Kardashians fans, but both deals have fallen through. Why exactly? Well there’s one particular Kardashian to blame for the shelved tabloid plan…Kris Jenner!

The New York Post reported that Kris Jenner’s demands killed the pending plans for a Kardashian-themed magazine. The mother and manager of the Kardashians demanded full editorial approval over all content not only in that magazine, but also in all other publications of American Media Inc., which includes Shape, Star, National Enquirer and Radar Online.

“AMI chief David Pecker made it clear that there was no way he was going to tell his editors what stories they could and couldn’t do,” a source explained, also adding that the company “balked” at the demand.

That’s not the only business deal that’s gone bad. Even more so, the brand’s plans to be transformed into Barbie dolls is also stalled. A rep for Mattel told MTV News, “As popular as the Kardashian sisters are, at this point in time we are not manufacturing Barbie-branded Kardashian dolls.”
