The season 11 premiere of American Idol scouted talent in Savannah, Georgia, and introduced the vocal talents of Amy Brumfield, who is currently unemployed and has been living in a tent. Though her back story was incredibly touching, her criminal past was definitely left out. Read on to find out what’s on the upcoming contestant’s rap sheet!
On the premiere episode, Amy Brumfield auditioned with Alicia Keys’ “Superwoman” and earned three positive votes to advance on to Hollywood. Randy Jackson commented that Brumfeld has a “very interesting tone…the hoarseness, the roughness,” and Steven Tyler metaphorically observed that “the spirit of the children of the woods snuck into you.” Jennifer Lopez called her a hippie gypsy…actually, she called her a “hipsy.”
According to E!, the 24-year-old from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, has been arrested at least five times since 2005.
In 2005, at the age of 19, she was arrested for criminal trespassing and held on $1,000 bail in Pigeon Forge, in the Smoky Mountain foothills. She was also arrested twice in 2007: for remaining on private property after eviction and for underage consumption of alcohol. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation for the alcohol offense,
The Gatlinburg Police Department also that Brumfield was arrested twice in nine days for public intoxication in August 2010: “extreme intoxication” at a restaurant and again when an officer observed her appearing “very unsteady on her feet” in Linebergers Plaza after she supposedly urinated in the lobby of a Baskin Robbins.
