Steven Tyler Sings National Anthem, Did He Mess Up Lyrics?

January 23, 2012 10:00 AM by Ashley Lee

Steven Tyler sang the National Anthem at the AFC Championship football game yesterday, when the New England Patriots beat the Baltimore Ravens. Though his rock ‘n’ roll rendition is filled with the signature screams that often frequent Aerosmith hit songs, a closer listen may sound a little different…did the American Idol judge just mess up the lyrics? Watch the video and read the harsh comments after the jump!

The American Idol judge opened the AFC Championship football game yesterday by singing the National Anthem and sporting a sequined Patriots scarf. However, many are arguing that Tyler messed up the lyrics of “The Star Spangled Banner” and has joined the group of those who have flubbed the Anthem in the past: Scott McCreary and Christina Aguilera.

“Let’s just say the rendition probably wouldn’t get him to Hollywood,” said the AP,  and Yahoo! said, “He most definitely would not have made it to the next round on the show and I am sure Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson would have had some interesting words to say had he been singing in front of them.”

Hopefully it’s the last time that the National Anthem lyrics are adjusted during this football season, as the very first Idol winner Kelly Clarkson will be singing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th.

Steven Tyler not only “messed up” the words, he should be ashamed of the way he sang them. This freak has made a lot of money in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and if he gave as poor of a perfomance at one of his concerts as he did singing our national anthem, he would be homeless.

Note to Coaches…..Players also make a lot of money in this country and they ought to have their hands over their hearts during our country’s anthem. What in the world has happened to Americans.

Hands over their hearts? What has happened to Americans?

Apparently they’ve been raised to believe that holding their hand over their heart is some how the only way to display patriotism during the national anthem, and that it’s appropriate to rant about this type of behavior online. Where did you get this perception? 4th grade? Is that when you dropped out? Do your research before you make yourself look so foolish.

Oh, and here is a clip of U.S. Marines, apparently showing blatent disrespect for our country during the anthem at a football game:

I want to know what words were messed up in the National Anthem??? I agree that if they wanted Steven Tyler to sing it they should have expected a rocker style. I found nother wrong with it and it was typical Aerosmith style. To Laurie Deamat you think that he can’t sing??? And again what lyrics did he get wrong????? As far as Screeches you are obviousley an elevator music person as he is the appitomy of a rock star. He has been singing for over 30 years, sold tons of recordings, tons of concerts and a best selling book. I’m pretty sure that your achievements are pale in comparison. Steven Tyler is awesome!

he said “ASS bombs bursting in air” instead of “the bombs bursting in air” Knowing his joking nature he probably did that on purpose.
