After celebrating Tori’s birthday with a séance that brought up unresolved feelings in Dean about his estranged sisters, Tori Spelling encourages him to reach out to them in Toronto before the new McDermott baby arrives. Yet while attempting to reunite in Canada, Tori says goodbye to the Spelling manor, plans two very pink birthday parties, gets into a car accident and announces a new housemate! Read on for the full recap of tonight’s episode of Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.
Dean has been tapped for a public appearance in his hometown, Toronto, and since he hasn’t talked to his sisters in over three years, Tori sees the trip home as an opportunity to finally reunite. But Dean’s not as convinced.”Everything’s become so convoluted; you don’t know how to go about picking at it and mending it.”
Tori’s plate is full as well (of course): Scout Masterson’s daughter’s first birthday is coming up, and Simone will be having a carnival-theme birthday party at the Santa Monica Pier!
However, due to the Pier’s rental guidelines, Tori and her party crew only have an hour to set up everything: face painting, pink popcorn, boardwalk food and a ton of desserts. Thankfully, everything goes perfectly!
But that’s not the only pink birthday party to plan: Stella’s third birthday party will be themed Hello Kitty! James and Tori spend a day handpainting the character on foam circles (what a great idea!). Tori also squeezes in a manicure and pedicure with Stella as a pre-birthday treat. Sure she’s only two years old, but Tori used to get her nails done with her mom at that age too. Pink, of course!
On the day of Stella’s party, everything is turning out beautifully…until the cake arrives. And it’s HUGE. So huge that it starts to break while being carried from the delivery truck to the backyard. Tori jokes, “Hello Kitty is having some waistline issues today!” Luckily, the cake decorator covers the crack just before the kids arrive…including Stella’s boyfriend, Malloy.
All the guests, including Ali Landry and Denise Richards enjoy face painting, hair-dos, manicures, craft stations, jumping castles, and an appearance from Hello Kitty herself! Stella is absolutely overjoyed and gives her hugs and kisses, and Dean makes “rice kitty squares” outside with the help of some liquid nitrogen. So the KIDS get to blow out smoke too! (Some seriously great party ideas at play here.)
Tori’s mom, Candy Spelling, brings an amazing gift for Stella: Tori’s old dollhouse. Tori is incredibly ecstatic. “All I wanted was for her to have that dollhouse and I thought it was gone forever!” With real lighted glass windows and a retractable roof, Tori knows Stella has hours of fun ahead of her. “I haven’t seen that dollhouse since I was ten years old. That dollhouse was everything to me growing up.”
On the day of Dean’s cooking final, Dean gets a call from Tori. “Listen, don’t panic, but the the kids and I were in a small accident at school. I’m just kinda shaken up right now, a paparazzi was chasing me and I ran into a wall at school and took down the whole wall.” Dean is outraged that the paparazzi made this happen. “It comes with the territory, I get it…they’ve gotta learn, there’s a line.” Candy takes Tori to the doctor after the accident and everything is okay.
Tori and the kids head to Toronto to support Dean’s Fathers’ Day appearance. Dean plans a romantic trip to the Christmas tree farm where he proposed to Tori, complete with a horse-drawn carriage ride and a sparkling cider family toast. Tori, however, is actively rooting Dean on to reunite with his sisters. “I’m nervous for Dean, I know this is hard and I’m so proud of him. I’m just hoping for the best.”
Dean is still in contant with his sister, Dale, but hasn’t spoken to Dawn or Dana in three years. “I’m afraid of showing up at her door and her not wanting to patch things up,” confesses Dean. Yet at her door, Dean is immediately embraced by Dana. “It was a little stiff, it was a little cautious, but after a few seconds we just melted into each other’s arms and we were brother and sister again.” Dean’s sister Dawn is there as well, and the sisters hope to come down to LA for the new baby’s birth. Dean reflects, “This baby kinda brought a lot of people together.”
It’s both heartfelt hellos and tearful goodbyes in this episode: Back in LA, Tori’s mom announces that she’s sold the Spelling manor, and though she has to be out in 30 days, her condo won’t be ready for another year. Liam and Stella each offer up their rooms to grandma, but the news is bittersweet for Tori as it’s the last place she saw her father. “I’m happy for my mom, she has to move on with her life and this gives her a fresh start.” The family goes to visit Candy at the manor for the last time, after living there for 21 years, and Candy gives Tori Aaron’s old typewriter as a gift.
Tune in next week for the season finale!
