American Idol Recap: Texas Auditions

January 26, 2012 07:05 PM by Lisa Princ

Last night on American Idol on FOX, we watched auditions in Colorado, and tonight the judges headed to the home of Kelly Clarkson. That’s right, the auditions are in Texas tonight, but you might be surprised by the talent, or lack of! Read on for all the highlights of tonight’s episode!

American Idol kicked off the Texas auditions with a very excited man, Phong Vu. Phong Vu couldn’t figure out what he loves more, Steven Tyler or all the cameras in his face. Phong came in with a lot of passion that was quickly put to rest once he opened his mouth. His rendition of Unbreak My Heart left Randy asking “What show is this?” while Jennifer and Steven sympathized with him. Then we watched a few more horrible auditions that left us wondering where these people get the idea that they can actually sing.

Texas began to look hopeless as all the Scotty McCreery wannabes made their way out, and all of them were awful – were there no cowboys in Texas? Then we met 17-year-old Skylar Laine, who was a cowgirl, but definitely a tomboy. Skylar boasted of her love of four wheeling and hunting, but could she sing? Skylar took on Pistol Annie’s Hell On Heels, and she blew the judges away. Then we watched a return hopeful, Baylie Brown, who made it to Hollywood back in season six, but went home during the group round. Baylie sang Bon Jovi’s Bed Of Roses, and it was beautiful and she was sent through after Randy told her she had gotten significantly better.

28-year-old Kristine Osorio, a newly single mom, who took out a loan for her divorce, but decided to spend it on a plane ticket to Idol instead. Kristine had an awesome voice, and looked like she could really rock out if given the opportunity. Kristine definitely rocked the audition, and her plane ticket paid off as she was sent through to Hollywood. American Idol then took an odd turn as Jennifer could not seem to agree with Randy and Steven. Randy and Steven sent through some iffy singers, while Jennifer had a few that she loved, but they would not send through.

Ryan Seacrest then decided it was time to take matters into his own hands, and he choose a frumpy looking character to bring peace to the judges. Alejandro Cazares came in blabbing some jibberish about the revolution and then tried to impress the judges with a song by Paramore. He was absolutely awful, but at least he brought some agreement to the judges. Randy told him that he would never, ever, have a career in singing. Cortez Shaw, who dished on what a tough childhood he had, was up next with his rendition of Someone Like You by Adele. Looks like Cortez may never have to worry about being homeless again, as the guy could belt it out!

Texas then brought a lot more of the talent less hopefuls before we met the final audition of the night. Ramiro Garcia was last up for the evening, and he shared his story of overcoming the odds. 28-year-old Ramiro was born without any ears, and endured many surgeries. At birth, Ramiro’s parents were told he would never talk or hear, but upon doing the surgeries, he is now able to hear, speak, and sing! The church leader took on Amazing Grace, and though it was good, Randy thought he was the underdog. Ramiro Garcia received the final ticket, along with over 50 other hopefuls in Texas!
