It was hard enough sharing the news of their split with the rest of the world (we should know, we’re still trying to get over it!), but Project Runway host Heidi Klum and Grammy-winning singer, Seal‘s biggest concern when deciding to end their relationship was telling their four children about their separation, and what it will mean to the family. Keep reading to find out how the two tackled the tough subject, and how they’re working to make sure things are as easy for the children as possible.
How do you tell your children that you’re separating when you’re a high-profile Hollywood couple? Apparently, it’s not too different from handling the difficult conversation when you’re um… less than high-profile.
In an interview with Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush airing Friday (January 27), Seal explained how he and the Lifetime reality star have talked to their four children – Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2 – about their decision to end their marriage.
“We talk to them, we try to explain as best we could what is going on,” said Seal. “[We're] just explaining to them that things will be different, you know, without going into too much detail. Things will be different.”
Though decidedly “different,” Seal and Heidi have assured the children that “a lot of things won’t change” now that they’re separated.
“The main thing is to make sure that they feel that they’re loved,” he continued. “Make sure they understand that their parents love each other [and] … it has absolutely nothing to do with them.”
Not ruling out the idea of a reconciliation, Seal -who’s staying in Los Angeles to remain close to the kids – says that the children shouldn’t worry about losing any time with either parent.
“In actual fact, it may even improve the amount of time we spend with them,” says the singer. “Quality time.”
