Was Paula Abdul Fired From ‘The X Factor’ Or Did She Quit?

February 01, 2012 11:00 AM by Shayla Perry

The cast of The X Factor will definitely look a lot different when the show returns for its second season now that it’s been confirmed that Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and host Steve Jones won’t be coming back. Reportedly, Scherzinger voluntarily left the FOX reality program to focus on her own singing career, and Jones was given the boot, but is it true that Paula was also fired, or did she quit?

“Yes, it’s true; I won’t be returning to The X Factor next season,” Abdul said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Tuesday (January 31), seemingly hinting that she was asked to leave the show.

“I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations,” she continues. “Simon and I, along with FOX and Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, and I have absolute understanding of the situation.

Simon [Cowell] is, and will remain and dear friend of mine and I’ve treasured my experience working this past season with my extended family at FOX and Fremantle. I want nothing more than for The X Factor to exceed ALL of their wildest dreams. This truly has been a blessing and I am most grateful.”

Are you going to miss Paula Abdul on The X Factor? Do you think she should’ve been fired, or should they have kept her on for the show’s second season? Tell us what you think in the Comments section below, and be sure to come back to RTVM for the latest on The X Factor cast shake-up as it unfolds!

To Simon and the rest of the Producers of X-Factor,
Whoever advised you to do this moronic changes must be fired. If these changes were your actual idea then, I must ask you why you “fixed something that is not broken”? Firstly, you should be grateful that this new show here in the U.S. generated millions of viewers. Maybe not 20 million as you expected , but “it’s too early in the game”! Secondly, you should be grateful and thankful that there is a Paula Abdul, who possesses several positive adjectives, and the accidental pairing with Simon in the original A.I. subsequently worked out so well that some people tune in to X-Factor to also watch the flirtatious interaction between these two judges. The chemistry between Simon & Paula creates a lot of fireworks and excitement that is entertaining to most viewers. Why take that away from the viewing public? Thirdly, what turns a lot of people of is the fact that Simon and L.A tend to pick contestants with good looks without the ability to sing at all, that are very arrogant, and act juvenile. Thank God Melanie won because she can absolutely sing. Fourthly, it would be very helpful if all the judges limit their comments to 1-2 sentences so Steve didn’t have to rush the judges or cut them off. I think Steve did a great job in pacing the program, otherwise you would have been over your time slot allotted, just like what happened in A.I. years ago.
    From a very disappointed viewer.

The bottom line is this was Simon’s failure. He didn’t deliver the viewers he said he was going to deliver. I love the way the producers take this out on Paula. Good for her for leaving this 2nd rate show anyway. I bet it never delivers 20 miillion viewers, why would it anyway. And yes, Paula, Nicole and Steve helped take the show to 12.5 millions viewers but they keep the guy who failed. The show has less life left in it than American Idol or The Voice does. Simon should learn to be a little humble, he doesn’t rule the world and that is why a LOT less people tuned into his show than tune into American Idol. Paula should go back to American Idol, they should get rid of Steven and get her back.

I’m glad Paula is gone. She did not do anything for the contestants, complained a lot, neVer had Simon’s back on anything, and frankly was down right mean to him! Simon wants the contestants to have a real shot, not listen to judges that can’t make a decision. I’m sure her and crybaby Nicole had lots of complaints. Steve should ‘Ver never been hired.
He was boring and did nothing for the show!! Simon made all the r. Stings go up by putting together a great show. Now he needs judges that are not afraid to vote!!

I think that it was smart to get rid of Paula Abdul . I think Simon Cowel would of asked Nicole schezinger to leve also but she quite. It gives them a chance to bring in new younger judges to actact a new atmissfear to the show. (Deme Lovoto and Brittny Spears)
