Survivor: One World — New Promo Shows Tribes Swapped

February 02, 2012 08:00 AM by Ryan Haidet

The big twist of Survivor: One World features two tribes divided by gender living on the same beach.  But part of that twist may not actually live very long.  In fact, it may come to an early demise just like the tribal divisions on seasons 12 and 13.  Speculation about all this started this week when a new promo was posted on YouTube that showed certain castaways wearing the wrong buffs.  Read on for more details on this potential spoiler and to see the promo for yourself.

In a 23-second tease that focuses on Leif, the buff swap is visible during a glimpse at a challenge (watch below).  Leif is shown in the image wearing his orange Manono buff.  That makes total sense because Manono is the men’s tribe.  But in that same moment, Michael is seen wearing the teal (women’s) Salani buff.  A few seconds later, one of the women is shown wearing an orange buff.

This short promo could mean that a tribal swap happens very early in the season.  If that’s the case, the promo also spoils the fact that Leif, Michael and Sabrina aren’t eliminated in the first episode because this possible swap won’t come during the premiere.

I also thought this could mean that producers switched the tribes up for a Reward challenge.  But in closer viewing of the promo, this is clearly an Immunity challenge because the Idol is visible next to host Jeff Probst.

This wouldn’t be the first time a swap came far too early in a season that focused heavily on its tribal separations at the start.  The four tribes on Survivor: Panama — Exile Island (divided by age and gender) were dissolved into two in the second episode.  Survivor: Cook Islands, which featured four tribes divided along ethnic lines at the premiere, dwindled to two tribes in episode three.

Survivor: One World, which marks the show’s 24th season, premieres on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. EST.

What do you think of this news?  Do you think the tribes will be swapped early in the season?  Will you be made if the tribal swap happens within the first three episodes?  Who is your favorite castaway so far?  Sound off and leave a comment below!
