After an amazing performance by the New York Giants at the Super Bowl, it was finally time for the season two premiere of The Voice. There was more competition between coaches Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera than there was in that football game! Read on for a full recap of the first set of blind auditions, and a tally of how many musical mentees each of the coaches have collected so far.
RaeLynn sings Miranda Lambert’s “Hell on Heels” and immediately grabs Adam Levine’s attention. Thankfully, her first choice coach, Blake Shelton, also turns his chair! “I can’t wait for Miranda to hear your version of that song!” says Blake. Adam jokes, “Why would you want to be just a country star when you could be so much more than that?” taunts Adam. However, RaeLynn chooses Blake!
Jesse Campbell, whose audition we showed you a couple weeks ago, gets everyone’s chairs to turn around! “You followed through above and beyond all my expectations,” says Christina. Jesse goes Team Xtina!
Juliet Sims sings a sultry rock version of “Oh! Darling” that pushes Cee Lo’s and Adam’s buttons at the exact same moment. And at the last second, Christina also turns her chair as well. Christina jokingly calls Adam a used car salesman and a wannabe Justin Timberlake, and Adam retaliates, “If selling a car means winning The Voice, than I sell cars.” Shockingly, she goes with Cee Lo, and Adam and Christina make up.
Chris Mann puts his classical training to use when singing “Because We Believe,” and Cee Lo and Christina both turn their chairs as the audition scores a standing ovation from the audience. “I’ve been at it for a while and I’ve tried to shrink my voice down to fit, but I decided that for this show, I’m gonna just sing like myself,” confesses Chris. He chooses Christina as his coach as well.
Tony Lucca is a former member of the Mickey Mouse Club who auditions with “Worry.” Adam, who has yet to win over a contestant, is the first to turn his chair, followed by the rest of the judges. “Congratulations,” says Blake, “you’re on the show, no matter what.” Adam begs, “Please, please, for the love of God, pick me!” Tony concedes and chooses Adam!
After Tony’s audition, Christina leaves her chair to personally greet him and his family. “OMG I didn’t even recognize!” she exclaims backstage. “Britney had the biggest crush on you!”
At the end of the episode, the boys each have one team member each, while Christina has two. Tune in tomorrow night for another set of blind auditions; each coach needs to have twelve teammates before the battle rounds can begin!
