It is a sad day in the music and film industry tonight as it was announced that Whitney Houston, famed recording artist and actress, passed away unexpectedly, presumably of a drug overdose.
Having appeared on her ex husbands reality show, Being Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston’s relationship troubles and battle with drug addiction was very publicized. Many celebrity friends, including her ex husband, tried to get Whitney Houston help. However, she never seemed too interested in cleaning up her act.
After a fantastic career in the 1980′s and 1990′s both in the record industry and in films such as Bodyguard, Waiting To Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife, Whitney Houston seemed to quickly fall off the publics radar in the early 2000′s when rumors began that she was a drug addict. Erratic behavior at parties and Hollywood events seemed to confirm the rumors and months would go by where the world would not hear from or see Whitney Houston.
In 2004, while filming Being Bobby Brown for Bravo, Whitney Houston was said to be shown not in the greatest of lights. Despite high ratings, after just one season the show was canceled, largely because Whitney refused to participate in a second season. In 2006 Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston separated with the divorce being finalized in April of 2007, but the court battles between the couple continued over the custody of their daughter, Bobbi Christina. In 2009, Whitney Houston released her last album, I Look to You. While the singles hit the Billboard 200, the album never came close to the hits of the 80′s and 90′s.
Whitney Houston went on to be a guest judge on X Factor UK and in February 2010, at the BET awards, American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson, performed tribute song to Whitney Houston. Still rumors persisted about a very sick Whitney Houston and her death was speculated more than once.
Just days ago, on February 9, 2011, Whitney Houston reportedly performed at a pre-Grammy party and left looking like she had been at the losing end of a cat fight. Not only was she bleeding and scratched up, but the reports are that she seemed to be intoxicated as she stumbled to her car, where she quickly passed out. No definite word yet on what killed Whitney Houston, but chances are it was a drug overdose.
Reality TV Magazine is sad to learn tonight about Whitney Houston’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
