The Real Housewives of Atlanta Recap: Make It Rain And Give Back Down In South Africa

February 12, 2012 11:33 PM by Ashley Lee

On the last episode, The Real Housewives of Atlanta invaded Cape Town, South Africa, and unofficial cast member Marlo Hampton is stirring up trouble among both the Talls and the Smalls! Will she replace Cynthia as NeNe’s right-hand woman? And can the women put aside their petty drama to give back while in South Africa?

The most recent episode ended with Marlo and Sheree at each other’s throats and, shockingly enough, NeNe is playing mediator! “This is so stupid! Is this how I’ve looked in an argument?” she joked to the cameras.

And the best way to get over a girl fight is to hang out with some beautiful South African men, right? Kandi, Phaedra and Sheree head to a fire-throwing dinner party at a friend’s house with some beautiful—but very fake—people. Meanwhile, NeNe, Marlo and Cynthia head to Nobu, and though Marlo hoped for more from the women and their inauthentic trip to Africa (“I think they could have gone to Miami and called it a day!” she commented.)

When the Talls and the Smalls all reconvene at the club, Marlo immediately gives Sharee the middle finger and starts “making it rain” in the club by throwing her money in the air! “I’ve never seen anyone make it rain in a club where everyone had their clothes on and intended on keeping it that way…” commented Phaedra. Though the other women think she’s crazy for it, they’re picking up the bills off the floor!

The women pack up and leave first thing in the morning for Shamwari, and while the women are asking about spa treatments and the gym, Marlo proceeds to demand hair and makeup services from the staff! Their accommodations include some modern rooms and other “Southern Belle” antique ones, so the women draw numbers for a fair room selection. Ironically, it’s awarded to NeNe and Marlo.

Cynthia is the only one on time for breakfast the next morning in a safari-inspired outfit, complete with wooden accessories, while NeNe and Marlo take their sweet time getting dressed. ”We are in the middle of nowhere. I don’t know who NeNe and Marlo are getting dolled up for, it’s just us girls!” says Sheree. After arriving late, NeNe receives flowers from John.

Thankfully, the safari splits the Talls and the Smalls in two separate cars. The Smalls are serenely observing the breathtaking wildlife, except for a brief moment narrating some giraffe interaction with a dialogue between NeNe and Marlo! In the Talls’ car, Cynthia is constantly asking questions in awe, Marlo is annoyed by Cynthia’s constant jabber and NeNe is complaining about nature as she sits between the two. And though Marlo feels guilty about her giraffe rub, she’s photographing zebras and can’t wait to grab one for another rug!

The women then head to a local orphanage. After a dance session with the boys there, they head to a supermarket to stock up on groceries and toiletries to donate to the kids and local families. Everything totals up to over a thousand dollars—though it’s a negligible amount of money to these Atlanta Housewives, it makes a huge difference to those mothers and children who gladly accepted the gifts from their safari truck.

“I’ve never seen children with so little be so happy,” observes Cynthia. They have a genuinely good time playing with the kids back at the orphanage, and they sing for the women as a way of thanking them—a performance that brings Phaedra to tears. ”Interacting with those kids made me feel like,”We want to give more.” said NeNe.
