The Bachelor Recap: The Black Widow

February 13, 2012 08:02 PM by Candace Young

Last week on ABC‘s The Bachelor, Casey was sent packing after it was revealed that she had a love back home. This week, Ben Flajnik takes the remaining bachelorettes to Belize. Keep reading to find out what happens on their dates, what Ben says to Courtney Robertson before the Rose Ceremony, and to learn which girls will be getting hometown dates next week…

This week, The Bachelor, Ben Flajnik, is thrilled to be in Belize, and is reflecting on being a week away from going home to meet the families of four of the women. Chris Harrison announces that there will be three one-on-one dates with no roses, and a group date on which one woman will get a rose and be guaranteed a hometown visit.

Lindzi scores the first one-on-one date with Ben, which sends Nicki into tears and self-doubt about her own connection with Ben. He shows up to get Lindzi and it’s all kinds of awkward. Not surprisingly, the pair take off in a helicopter. They go to the ‘Blue Hole’ which is a circular area of water surrounded by a coral reef. Lindzi, who is terrified of heights, learns they will be jumping out of the helicopter into the water below. Ben gives her the power to do it by kissing her.  After, there is the usual talk about how overcoming the fear together bonded them for life etc. Nothing of consequence appears to happen in the Blue Hole.

At night, they have wine by candlelight. Lindzi’s afraid Ben doesn’t feel the way she does. Ben initiates a discussion about hometown dates, and Lindzi wants to let him know she’s into bringing him home. Ben ups the cheese factor by pulling out a bottle and a piece of paper. They write a fairytale about themselves, and how their future was uncertain until they jumped out of a helicopter together. The story ends with an eternal promise to be honest – tipsy much?  They stick the story in the bottle and toss it out to sea. It’s all very comfortable and easy between the pair.

Emily has the next one-on-one, which really rankles Courtney. They dance on a beach and decide to get some fresh lobsters for dinner. Emily’s excited to learn they can go out diving for them. Underwater comedy ensues as Ben tries to man up and hook a lobster by the tail. Yeah, Emily gets one.

Back at the suite, Courtney is crying to Lindzi about Ben not having her back by taking mean Emily on a date and possibly falling for her. She’s ready to declare that it’s too late for her and Ben – except she gets the next date card. She giggles that Ben’s a smart boy and listens. Kacey is outraged that Courtney’s implying she has Ben under control and that he knows what’s good for him. Kacey tells the cameras that Courtney is the Black Widow and she wants to smush her!

Ben and Emily discuss the idea of a hometown date, and she confidently issues a formal invitation. Ben giddily holds up his beer and proposes a toast. He tells her she’s beautiful and he genuinely enjoyed his day. They make out.

The next day, Courtney begins her date telling the cameras that Ben needs to step it up – she needs more. Ben takes her to a Mayan temple. She muses about human sacrifices… They climb up the ruins and she wastes no time in getting straight to manipulating – she says she wasn’t happy about his date with Emily and is no longer sure about bringing him home to meet her family. It has the desired effect – Ben hastens to reassure her. They climb the rest of the way to the top and a goofy Ben declares that he can see his life with this woman.

Later, over dinner, Courtney delights Ben by telling him she would like to bring him home to meet her parents. Ben waxes eloquent about visions of past, present, and future (with her) that he saw at the top of the temple. They make out. Talk turns to the other girls. Courtney gets on her soap box about how they’ve never asked her anything about herself, and how they’re all very vanilla. Ben admits he’s concerned that she’s not getting along with them. Courtney huffs that they’re just wearing her out – she doesn’t even think they’re women; they’re girls.  Ben tells the cameras that he’s worried about ending up with someone that no one likes – uh oh!

Rachel, Nicki, and Kacey are on the group date this week on The Bachelor. One of them will get a rose and be confirmed as a hometown date.

Ben wakes the girls up from a dead sleep and drags them out to go swimming. They end up on a boat and find out they’re going shark diving! Rachel freaks out. Swearing ensues when the chum is thrown out and the sharks appear. Kacey and Nicki go on in with their skin-diving gear, while Ben hangs back to help Rachel. Kacey’s not impressed with the amount of one-on-one attention Rachel’s logging.

Each of the girls gets a chance to talk to Ben later. Kacey goes out on a limb and tells him she’d really like to bring him home and is falling in love with him. They make out. Her candidness pays off – she gets the rose. After, some awkwardness ensues before the three girls team up to warn him about Courtney. Ben seems to hear them.

Chris Harrison appears to tell the bachelorettes that Ben’s mind is made up and there will be no cocktail party tonight – it’s straight to the Rose Ceremony. Courtney’s feeling pretty good about it – she quips, “See ya! Wouldn’t wanna’ be ya’!”

Rose Ceremony

Ben appears and asks to steal Courtney. He tells her he needs to know she’s in this for the right reasons. Courtney defends herself by saying she didn’t come here to make friends. She assures Ben they can make each other happy and she doesn’t want him questioning her. They return to join the others, who’ve been speculating madly.

Kacey already has a rose and is safe and bringing Ben home to meet her family next week. Ben offers the remaining roses to Nicki, Lindzi, and Courtney. Rachel and Emily have come to the end of the road in Belize. Rachel leaves feeling rejected, and Emily leaves hoping that there is enough time left for Ben to see Courtney for who she really is.

Next week, Ben meets the families of the remaining four girls.

I dislike Courtney so much that I will make a point not to buy anything someone is paying her to model.

I have lost all respect and faith in Ben. His judgment leaves a lot to be desired in keeping Courtney around. I have disliked her from the start. If he proposes to her, he deserves what he will get.
