The Voice Recap: Blind Auditions, Part 3

February 13, 2012 11:13 PM by Ashley Lee

The blind auditions continued on The Voice tonight, but not without a fight: Blake Shelton can’t seem to win over contestants, Christina Aguilera flips the middle finger and Adam Levine refuses to wrestle. And Cee Lo Green flirts with every female on the stage! Read on for a full recap of tonight’s blind auditions.

Sarah Golden faced judgment from record labels in the past because they vowed to offer a contract if she would change her look. A rock ‘n’ roll powered performance of Lady Gaga’s “You and I” turns Cee Lo and Blake to the stage. “It’s an honest sound…it’s so real, it’s refreshing,” said Blake. However, she chooses Cee Lo as her coach.

Pip says the backward-facing chairs will help him because his young baby face seems to work against him. After the first phrases of “House of the Rising Sun,” Adam presses his button, followed by the other three judges! Blake tries to persuade Pip to his team by being the only guy, and Christina testifies that she’s “had success before Maroon 5 came along!”

“It takes a real man to wear a bow tie!” says Adam who admits to being surprised by Pip’s look. “You really epitomize the show.” Pip chooses Adam because he was the first to turn.

Erin Willet, whose father has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, awaits her audition alongside her parents. She steps onstage with an upbeat rendition of “I Want You Back” that puts her on Blake’s team! “You have a very powerful voice and you had the crowd going,” said Blake.

Katrina Parker hasn’t been able to sing for the past two years because of her health. Thankfully she auditions with ”One of Us” that pushes Adam’s button. And while Cee Lo is getting his flirt on, Adam interrupts him with, “I win! It was different and I love that about you.”

Geoff McBride wears sunglasses because he tore his retina from a kickboxing injury in his youth. For the judges, he performs “Higher Ground” and not only gets the audience on their feet, but Christina and Cee Lo (at the last minute) turned toward the stage. “The very first note you hit blew me away,” said Christina. “You had amazing energy and you brought it the whole way through…I may not look like Cee Lo but I got soul too!” Geoff chooses to become Christina’s first recruit of the night.

Erin Martin made the jump from modeling to music, but record deals continue to comment that she needs development. “For once, I don’t get judged on how I look,” she said to Carson before the audition. Her unique voice while singing ”Hey There Delilah” gets the attention of Blake and Cee Lo and, of course, Cee Lo starts to flirt. “Quite naturally, you belong to me, don’t you agree?” he joked.

James Massone sings “Find Your Love” and must choose between Cee Lo, Blake and Christina. “Adam, what happened to you?” jokes James. Everyone is shocked that the guy who turned out the R&B hit is this young white guy! After breaking down on stage, James choose Team Cee Lo.

Chris Cauley, inspired to go into music and follow the footsteps of his grandmother, sings a blues version of “Grenade” has Adam and Cee Lo facing the stage. Though he asks the two coaches to arm wrestle for him (Adam refuses), Chris chooses Adam has his mentor!

Adam also grabs Nathan Perrett; Blake recruits Brian Fuente and Christina grabs the Voice’s first emcee, Moses Stone.

The last contestant of the night is Jordis Unga who sings “Maybe I’m Amazed” for the judges. Everyone happily recognizes the song within the first few notes, and Blake turns around first. However, Christina and Cee Lo also turn at the song’s bridge! Man, Blake can’t catch a break…

“I picked you! I picked you! Simple!” shouts Cee Lo. But Blake fights: “You’re the type of person I’ve been sitting here waiting for…the person that I picked on my team last year, Dia Frampton, is on tour with me right now!” And finally, Jordis chooses Blake!

The coaches’ teams are starting to really fill up; tune in next week for more blind auditions!
