Top Chef Texas Recap: Let the Culinary Games Begin!

February 15, 2012 09:09 PM by Shayla Perry

This week on Bravo, it’s a fight to the finish as the final four chef’testants head to the chilly slopes of Whistler, British Columbia – home of the 2010 Winter Olympics – to compete in Top Chef‘s Culinary Games. Which three will make it to the finale? Find out after the jump.

Throughout the culinary competition, they’ve withstood the blazing heat of Texas, so how well will the final four chef’testants perform when the temperature is turned down — way down?

After a brief break, Beverly, Lindsay, Paul, and Sarah all gather in Whistler, British Columbia, but the chef’testants have no idea what’s in store for them.

At the top of the mountain, Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio welcome the chefs to the “Culinary Games,” a set of three events in which they’ll be competing for $10,000 and a spot in the final three.

Event #1: Peak 2 Peak

For the first challenge in the Culinary Games, each chef must cook a dish on a moving gondola, 7,000 feet above sea level, stopping once to choose from a selection of mystery ingredients to add to their recipe!

Will Bev’s idea to prepare a cold dish pay off?

After tasting each of the chefs’ dishes, the judges declare Lindsay the winner of the first event…and $10,000. But as a bonus, she won’t have to cook in the next two events and has a guaranteed spot in the final three!

Event #2: Ice Blocks

In the second challenge of the Culinary Games, Bev, Sarah, and Paul must pick at blocks of ice to get the ingredients for their dishes, with one hour to thaw them.

The winner of the event is Paul, who will also be headed to the next phase of the competition in Vancouver.

Event #3: Culinary Biathlon

After cross-country skiing, Sarah and Bev will each have 10 bullets to shoot targets with the names of ingredients printed on them. The ingredients that they successfully shoot, they’ll be able to use to create their dish.

Sounds easy enough, if they can only get past the cross-country skiing.

Bev smokes Sarah in the first part of the biathlon, then immediately shoots her first ingredient on her first try, but then, her luck looks like it’s starting to run out, as she wastes a number of bullets.

Meanwhile, Sarah has caught up, and with at least a little bit of experience with target practice, she starts knocking out her own ingredients…until she’s down to just one bullet.

Practically neck and neck, the two race to the kitchen to start cooking. Sarah’s paying homage to her German heritage with a rabbit dish, but Beverly’s doing an entirely new dish. Which will win over the judges and land a spot in the finale?

The panel agrees that it’s definitely not an easy decision, but after deliberating, Padma Lakshmi announces that Beverly must pack her knives and leave the competition, making Sarah, Paul, and Lindsay the final three contestants.

Tell us, which of the final three contestants do you think will walk away with the title of Top Chef? Are you sad to see Bev go?

I think Sarah should have been the one to go, she is too much of a cry baby, she has always had it out for Beverly, Beverly could never do anything right . I am hoping that Paul will win the competition. He seems like he is the best chef, him and ed were the only reason I watched the show.
