Kitchen Nightmares Recap: Sorry, Charlie’s

February 17, 2012 07:35 PM by Shayla Perry

Tonight on FOX, it’s a family affair when Chef Gordon Ramsay heads to Charlie’s Italian Bistro in La Verne, Calif. to save the struggling restaurant before the owner’s mother and sister lose their homes due to her poor business practices. Find out everything you missed in this all new episode of Kitchen Nightmares after the jump.

This week on Kitchen Nightmares, Chef Ramsay travels to La Verne, Calif. to Charlie’s Italian Bistro, where the owner, Tatiana, is having a hard time keeping her business afloat.

Taking on the restaurant after two previous owners – including Charlie himself – couldn’t manage it successfully, Tatiana had her mother and sister help her invest in her dream by putting up their homes as collateral. Though she runs the business, Tatiana, a former waitress at Charlie’s, only contributed $1,000 to the endeavor.

She’s paid a lot more than that emotionally though. With the restaurant in trouble, and her mother and sister’s houses both on the line, she needs a miracle to get Charlie’s out of debt and mend her relationships with her family members.

A miracle, or Chef Gordon Ramsay.

Immediately, the chef takes Tatiana and her family aside to see where things are in respect to their relationship and the state of the business, then, it’s time for him to see how the food at Charlie’s is contributing to its failure.

After trying the doughy bread and lasagna with pink sauce, it’s clear that a big part of the problem at Charlie’s is coming from the kitchen.

There, he meets with the cook and discovers that much of the food that’s being used has been pre-cooked and frozen for far too long; most of it is being wasted.

As the customers begin to fill in for the dinner service, Chef Ramsay is busy in the kitchen giving the cook a tutorial on how to make a proper meatball — at an Italian restaurant.

Resistant to all of the change, the cook is taking his time getting orders filled, and the customers aren’t very happy. But they’re even less enthused when the food finally gets to their tables.

Chef Ramsay storms into the kitchen to find that the cook has dropped the ball with preparing the meatballs. When yet another plate is returned, the chef explodes, complaining that the cook can’t be trusted.

In tears, Tatiana rushes out of the restaurant, not knowing what to do to make things better.

Can Tatiana pull it together and take charge before her mother and sister lose their houses?

Ready to address all of the restaurant’s issues, Tatiana decides to shut down the business for the night and plans on firing the cook. But that’s not exactly what Chef Ramsay told her to do, and her mother thinks that they should wait to make that decision.

Not listening, Tatiana goes straight to the kitchen and fires the cook before breaking down in the restroom.

The next day, Chef Ramsay surprises Tatiana with a very generous gift — a new cook. Well, for a little while, loaning Charlie’s the chef who’s helped him open four restaurants in the last five years. In addition to working at Charlie’s for a month, the chef will also help Tatiana find a suitable replacement. Good deal!

Next, everyone on the entire staff gets a primer in making pizza and lasagna before Chef Ramsay introduces the new menu.

It’s time for the relaunch, and with the interim chefs running the kitchen, it’s up to Tatiana to make sure that everything in the front is taken care of. Unfortunately, the food is coming out at odd times, making the customers very unhappy. The problem is that there’s a lack of communication between the wait staff and the people running the pizza oven.

After some prodding from Chef Ramsay, Tatiana takes charge and gets her staff talking to one another to keep things running smoothly, making the relaunch a success.

I want to know where to find that off-white dress with black trim that Tatiana had on toward the end of the show. It’s adorable. Anyone know how I can find out?

Really? Tatiana was such a crybaby. Shouldn’t be in charge of a lemonade stand.

I know casimiro and Tatiana personally I use to work next door at the cleaners and they are the best people ever I’m so happy to see that they have gotten some help to keep their business afloat. All the businesses there in that shopping center have had such a problem staying in business and I would like to wish them the best of luck an love MARVIN’S CLEANERS – Adela . Nina. Maria. And Michelle!

Casimiro was the key to the destruction of that business. 15 years in this country and he couldn’t be bothered to learn any English? What an idiot- and Tatiana’s for not recognizing it. They both brutally victimized her sister and mother and that makes them not nice people at all.

I think Chef Gordon Ramsay is one cool dude. He obviously knows the business. If you read his background online you will see he’s opened restaurants all over the world and has earned Michelin stars in the past. His management style is spot on. He uses a tough love approach that cuts to the chase and gets action going in the right direction. He was what Tatania desperately needed. If I were in the business I would welcome Ramsay into my kitchen to get things straightened out. What perplexed me while watching the episode with Charlie’s was why Tatania and the staff resisted Ramsay’s advice. I am also perplexed as to why reports online indicate Charlie’s closed this year since the filming. What happened? Does anyone know. Tatania got a million dollars worth of good advice from Ramsay. Did she continue on with what he told her to do? Only the phantom knows so far.
