A woman’s naked body found beaten in a sewer at a Cancun resort…. It sounds like a scene from a primetime crime show, but for former Survivor producer Bruce Beresford-Redman, this is the harsh reality that he’s still coming to grips with as he sits in an isolated Mexican jail cell awaiting trial for the April 2010 murder of his wife, Monica; a crime he says he did not commit. Finally ready to break his silence, Beresford-Redman opens up about the day that changed his life forever, in more ways than one.
“Everyone seems to have decided that I killed my wife,” Beresford-Redman tells 48 Hours Mystery in an episode airing tonight (February 25). “I didn’t kill my wife — I really didn’t.”
Extradited from the U.S. to Mexico earlier this month, the former Emmy-winning producer of CBS‘ Survivor and father-of-two (his children were also in Cancun when Bruce’s wife was murdered) says that he’s submitted evidence to the Mexican court that exonerates him, but he’s still being ordered to stand trial.
“For anyone who really believes…that you’re innocent until you’re proven guilty, please take a look at the evidence,” Bruce urges. “Or in this case, the absolute complete lack of evidence.”
However, even if he actually is proven innocent, Beresford-Redman says there’s no happy ending in sight.
“This is not CSI or Law & Order or any of those shows where at the end we have a satisfying resolution. I doubt that there will ever be a satisfying resolution for this because the evidence is gone,” he explains. “Even if I do manage to get off, I don’t know if Monica’s killers will ever really be caught.”
