The twelve new women of 16 and Pregnant aren’t just putting their teen pregnancies on national television. Technically, they’re also auditioning for spot in a subsequent spin-off, just like many of the current Teen Mom reality personalities before them. Because yes, you read correctly: MTV has ordered the series Teen Mom 3.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network announced that Teen Mom 3 will likely feature four girls from the upcoming fourth edition of 16 and Pregnant.
When will the third spin-off series air? The date has yet to be determined, but season four of 16 and Pregnant begins on March 27 with back-to-back episodes, and the original Teen Mom set to return for its fourth season in the summer.
It’s not a bad idea on MTV’s part, since season three of 16 and Pregnant averaged 2 million viewers per episode, which was up 17 percent compared with its freshman run. Last year, the series ranked top in its time slot among viewers 12-34 and women 12-34 across all of cable.
Even more so, Teen Mom 2′s second season premiere was the franchise’s most-watched opener in its young history, drawing 4.2 million total viewers for the cable network. In the persons 12-34 demographic, Teen Mom 2 drew a 4.1 rating and in the adults 18-49 demo, the premiere posted a 2.4.
