Project Runway All Stars Recap: Freestylin’ For Pharrell

March 01, 2012 08:14 PM by Shayla Perry

Tonight on Lifetime‘s Project Runway All Stars, the final five designers are challenged to light up the runway with glowing, avant garde looks for guest judge Pharrell Williams. Will Mondo Guerra pull off another win? Find out everything you missed after the jump.

This week on Project Runway All Stars….

In the biggest test of their skills so far, the designers will be lighting up the runway, using technology (and the help of black lights) to create avant garde looks, never before seen on the show. The guest judge for the challenge is Grammy-winning rapper, producer, fashion designer, and the “Best Dressed Man in the World”… Pharrell Williams, who will incorporate the winning look into his work with one of his A-list clients.

With $300 for lighting equipment and an additional $100 to complete their designs, the all stars get started, but have they already gotten in over their heads?

By the end of the night, Michael Costello has completely changed his design, giving him very little time to finish. And having been challenged by Isaac Mizrahi and the rest of the judging panel to do something different this week, Kenley Collins is having her own doubts when her plaid dress doesn’t seem to be coming together as she planned.

In walks Joanna Coles for consultations, who immediately notices that both Kenley and Jerell Scott are using a similar fabric for their designs. Joanna is impressed with the risk that Michael seems to be taking with his dress — no draping (gasp!) — but worries that the wrinkling tape will ruin a look that could have the potential to win.

Meanwhile, Austin Scarlett‘s not making much progress, but hopes to use the news of his mother’s home going into foreclosure as inspiration.

On the day of the runway show, Mondo’s still having trouble with his design, and things aren’t better when he can’t get it to light up.

Jerell, Austin, and Kenley are all extremely confident about their looks as their models strut down the runway, but do the judges like them?

Kenley’s dress stands out as a favorite, and to the other designers’ surprise, so does Austin’s!

So who takes home the top prize?

Mondo is safe, but doesn’t get the win this week. This time, it’s Austin Scarlett, who gets emotional when Pharrell calls him “a star.”

Kenley is also safe, leaving Michael and Jerell in the bottom two.

Not impressed by his “grandma dress,” the judges decide to send Jerell home.

Who do you think should have won or lost on tonight’s episode of Project Runway All Stars?

I’m glad Michael’s safe. I liked all the designs, even Jerell’s blue skirt. Michael was only in the bottom two because his design looked like a Power Ranger but it was still cool. I would be happy if any of the guys won. Mondo was robbed in his season finale. And it would be great if Austin won partly so he can help his mother.
