She’s been criticized by everybody from Dancing with the Stars‘ Mark Ballas to Katherine Heigl, but Abby Lee Miller of Dance Moms isn’t one to get all broken-hearted about haters. See what the Lifetime reality star had to say in defense of her no-nonsense approach to dance after the jump.
“Every kid learns differently,” Miller tells Access Hollywood during a recent appearance on the show. “Some children you could say, ‘When you place that foot in passe, you need to open your hip socket…’ and they get it. They make the correction and you never have to go over it again. Other kids, you have to get out a baseball bat.”
As for the complaints from her students (probably those requiring the baseball bat approach), Abby has a few things to say about that too….
“When your child comes home and says, ‘I’m finished — I don’t want to do this anymore,’ that’s fine,” says Abby Lee. “But when your child comes home and says, ‘Abby said this and Abby said that, blah blah blah,’ It’s your job as a parent to say, ‘You know what? Go back in there tomorrow and prove her wrong. Work on it.’”
But don’t take her demanding demeanor as a sign that Abby Lee Miller doesn’t like kids.
“I love children,” claims Miller. “I’ve raise hundreds of children. There are children who work on Broadway because of me. I have kids at Tokyo Disney, I have kids that have made a lot of money and own a lot of property and are doing really well because of me — even out here in L.A.
“And I know, if it wasn’t for me, those kids would’ve never left Pittsburgh,” she adds. “I can say that confidently.”
