Things are heating up as more information about the shocking lawsuit against Food Network star Paula Deen and her brother, Bubba Hiers, is released. Now it’s being reported that the celebrity chef’s former employee is not only suing the sweet talkin’ Southern belle for sexual harassment, but she also claims that Deen, who’ll be featured this season on NBC‘s Who Do You Think You Are?, is also a racist. All the details, after the jump.
In addition to her claims of sexual harassment at the workplace, Lisa Jackson, former General Manager at Uncle Bubba’s alleges that both Paula Dean and her brother, Bubba Hiers, made several racist comments in her presence, and in the presence of the restaurant’s African-American employees, who Jackson claims were forced to use a separate restroom located in the back of the establishment.
According to her suit, Jackson states that while making arrangements for the catering staff at Bubba’s 2007 nuptials, she asked Deen what the servers should wear, to which Deen allegedly responded:
“Well what I would really like is a bunch of little n***ers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around. Now, that would be a true Southern wedding wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.”
Another shocking allegation included in the lawsuit against Paula Deen and her brother states that the Food Network star also made disparaging remarks against women in a meeting after the Savannah establishment’s previous manager had been fired for having sexual relations with the servers.
“If you think I have worked this hard to lose everything because of a piece of p***y, you better think again,” Deen allegedly said, before adding, “And now I’m going to do something I have never done. I am going to put a woman in a man’s job.”
Lisa Jackson is seeking unspecified damages in the suit.
