Project Runway All-Stars Recap: Business Casual

March 08, 2012 09:11 PM by Shayla Perry

Tonight on Lifetime, it’s down to the final four, and this week, the remaining designers will get a lesson on the business of the fashion industry. Which three will go on to compete in the finale? Find out everything you missed on Project Runway All-Stars after the jump.

Throughout the competition, they’ve proven that they can create great looks for the runway, but to make it in the ever-evolving fashion industry, the remaining four designers are going to have to combine their creativity with some business sense.

To put them to the test, this week, the designers will be creating designs for famed New York designer Nanette Lepore. The looks that they create will target a specific price point, and the winning design will be mass produced and sold nationwide, with the proceeds going to an organization with the mission of saving New York’s Garment District.

Unfortunately for most of the designers, they’ve never had to worry about manufacturing costs, budget, etc., which limits them as far as what they can do. Kenley Collins, however, has experience, and it shows. Will it help her win the challenge?

Tensions are high when Mondo Guerra overhears Kenley slamming the fact that he doesn’t know how to sketch, telling Michael Costello that sketching is one thing a designer should know how to do.

After getting their fabric, being mindful of the strict budget constraints, the designers head to the Workroom, where Joanna Coles and Nanette Lepore provide consultations.

As always, everyone is confident about their own design, but it’s the judges’ opinions that matter.

Nanette is disappointed that Kenley scrapped the keyhole that she had in the original sketch of her dress, and Michael’s dress, while lovely, is a touch too long. Mondo’s fabric choice stuns the judges, but the shape of his dress may not be the most suitable for commercial success. Will Austin somehow pull off another win, despite his poor fabric choice?

He doesn’t win, but Austin Scarlett is safe, meaning he’ll move on to the finals, and making Mondo Guerra the winner of this challenge.

Now it’s down to Kenley and Michael. Which one will make it to the Project Runway All-Stars finale? Unhappy that she didn’t listen to the constructive criticism she was given during the challenge, the judges decide to send Kenley home.

Who do you think should have won or lost on tonight’s episode of Project Runway All Stars?
