The Amazing Race Recap: Italy Brings Out The Best In Some And The Worst In Others

March 11, 2012 06:47 PM by Lisa Princ

Last week on CBSAmazing Race, the contestants headed to Paraguay where we watched as Elliot and Andrew were eliminated. This week, the teams head to Italy, where Rachel Reilly gets dramatic yet again, and one team does something heartwarming for a fellow player. Read on for all the highlights!

The Amazing Race kicked off tonight as the teams had to race to get on a flight to Italy! Art and J.J. left first since they landed in first place last week, but it made no difference as they had to wait on a flight that did not leave for hours. One by one the teams caught up, and Bopper and Mark were surprised when they showed up at the airport and found only Art and J.J. there. Art and J.J. then informed Mark and Bopper that they needed to go back to the travel agency and get their tickets – the completely overlooked that part of the instructions.

Disappointed, Bopper and Mark made their way back to the travel agency, and landed on a flight that was leaving almost two hours behind the all the other teams, bummer. Bopper was determined not to give up though, as we learned that he has a very sick child at home, who he revealed takes 7 different breathing medications in one day. Therefore, Bopper could definitely use the money more than some of the other contestants – I’m thinking someone whiny who just won Big Brother.

Once in Italy, the teams had to tackle their first roadblock, or attempt a fast forward. The roadblock consisted of bungee-jumping down the center of a parking deck while trying to grab the next clue. If the team member could not grab the clue within two minutes, they had to run all the way to the top and start over again. For the fast forward, one team member had to land a toy helicopter on the head of their partner – well, on a hat that held a landing area on it. Art and J.J. were the first ones to arrive, and they chose to attempt the fast forward, but it appeared that they were going to be at it for a while.

Rachel and Dave argued over whether to do the roadblock or the fast forward, but Rachel won, and she did the roadblock. Rachel Reilly and Brendon also chose the roadblock, and Rachel nailed it! Vanessa had to do it twice, as did the Federal agents when neither team could grab the clue in two minutes. The remaining teams all finished the roadblock, and just as they were about to head to the detours, Art and J.J. finally finished up their fast forward. Art and J.J. then checked in with Phil Keoghan, who informed them that they each won $5k for coming in first this week.

For the detour, the teams could either choose between tasting and identifying salami, or cleaning an Italian statue. Most of the teams took the statue cleaning, with the exception of Kerri and Stacy, along with Rachel and Brendon. And the drama started as Brendon got a little too loud with Rachel, and she accused him of yelling at her. In her usually dramatic way, Rachel did everything from threaten to quit the race to threaten to jump out in front of a car…ugh, it is always about her. Does anyone else want to see these two eliminated already? Then we watched the other Rachel and Dave check in with Phil. They finished second, followed by the Jersey Shore boys.

And the drama continued as Rachel and Brendon struggled with their salami tasting. Rachel broke down and Brendon, who seemed to have enough of her drama, was ready to quit the race. But he didn’t, instead he took a breathe and consoled Rachel into feeling better, and they managed to finish the detour. Too bad almost everyone who had done the statue cleaning was already checked in with Phil – and knowing that Vanessa beat her was killing Rachel. Kerri and Stacy got through the salami much easier than Rachel and Brendon did and they ended up in seventh place.

Last to check in with Phil were Bopper and Mark, which broke our hearts after the story that Bopper told about his sick child. After Phil told them that they were in last place, Art and J.J. came out and told Bopper that they wanted to split the money they won this leg with him for his child! And if that was not enough to bring Bopper to tears, Phil then revealed that this was a non-elimination leg this week, so the guys will get another chance next week!

Best Amazing Race episode yet!! Those guys giving him their $5,000.00 each winnings. Loved it and love both those teams. Hope one of them wins! Military guy can be a jerk. Rachel and Brendon just too much to watch..hope to never have to see her again on any show..with her baby whining and his catering to her. Totally sickening!! But..to watch the last part of the show was the best…love it when teams can be so supportive!! Amazing guys from San Diego!!!

I can’t wait for Rachel to get off the program. Every week it’s the same thing, whine and cry, whine and cry. Too bad, cause I like Brendon. I don’t know how he puts up with her – must be love.
